Adjourn Donald Lemos 262 Woods Rd. Aspen, Colorado 81611 January 7, 2009 Commercial Core and Lodging Commission (CCLC) RE: Farmer's Market Expansion Dear Board Members: Telephone 970-923-4447 Fax 970-923-3090 E-mail IemosCa?soo ris. net For the record, my name is Don Lemos. I've been teaching skiing in Aspen since 1960/61, the days of Fred Iselin and Friedl Pfeiffer. I've also been leasing and managing the parking lot at the corner of Hunter and Hyman for over 30 years. I'm unable to be here today as I am booked with ski lessons. My wife Jeannie has kindly agreed to represent me. I'm adamantly opposed to the Farmer's Market expanding onto the 500 block of E. Hyman. This would close off the driveway to the lot, shutting down my business. It was suggested that I remove the cable along the alley for access. This is not possible. Cars park alongside that cable. There is no place to move them. Truck deliveries on Saturday, park in the alley blocking the area alongside the cable. I have a contract with my renters to provide a specific assigned parking space with unrestricted access. The CCLC does not have the right to supercede that contract. To close off more streets and eliminate more parking is not in the interests of Aspen. The Farmer's Market works just fine the way it is. Leave it alone. "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." The CCLC mission statement states: To create access to local artisans, AND "TO ENCOURAGE A SENSE OF COMMUNITY." The expansion proposal is creating divisiveness and is contrary to that statement. I urge you to drop this idea today and hold no more meetings. Thank you. Don Lemos C~I~ ~ea~
