HomeMy WebLinkAboutresolution.hpc.007-2008RESOLUTION OF THE ASPEN HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION (HPC) MAKING A RECOMMENDATION TO THE CITY COUNCIL REGARDING NEWSPAPER BOXES IN THE DOWNTOWN ASPEN AREA RESOLUTION N0.7, SERIES OF 2008 WHEREAS, the purpose of Chapter 26.415 "Development Involving the Aspen Inventory of Historic Landmark Sites and Structures or Development in an "H" Historic Overlay District" is to promote the public health, safety and welfaze through the protection, enhancement and preservation of those properties, aFeas and sites, which represent the distinctive elements of Aspen's cultural, educational, social, economic, political and architectural history; and WHEREAS, during the commissioner member comments portion of the regulaz Historic Preservation Commission meeting on May 14, 2008, the Historic Preservation Commission voiced concern that the dilapidated, haphazard and disheveled newspaper boxes in Aspen aze adding to the "urban clutter." The board approved Resolution No.6, Series of 2008, by a (6 - 0) vote to formally express their concerns to City Council. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED: That HPC hereby recommends that the City look at the existing regulations and develop a plan to better regulate newspaper boxes so that they do not detract from the streetscape of town.
