MINUTES OF MAY 6.2009
Chairperson Terry Butler called the meeting to order at 8:30 a.m.
Commissioner in attendance: Bill Dinsmoor, Andrew Kole and Roger
Haneman. Excused were John Starr, Don Sheeley and Fred Ayarza.
Staff: Kathy Strickland, Chief Deputy City Clerk
MZBZ III went over his idea for the town. I'm trying to put together a
cultural night club downtown. I will be selling memberships. Presently I
am waiting for the funding. I' 11 keep the CCLC informed as it moves
forward.
Jannette Whitcomb, environmental health -third year for electronic
collections. They will pick up your electronics at your business and they
give deals to the non-profits. The idea is to have a company pickup your
electronics from your business so you don't have to go to the dump.
Bill said the ACRA, Nancy Lesley, and CCLC should collaborate on
entertainment downtown.
Andrew discussed his idea of downtown entertainment for the summer.
Andrew asked Mitch if he could get businesses to chip in $50. each.
Mitch Osur, president of the Retail Association said he would have to e-mail
everyone to see if they are interested.
Andrew said the cost would be around $500. for three nights a weeks.
Mitch pointed out that there are 20 shops on the edge. Waterworks is gone.
Andrew said we could do Portraits on the mall or a psychic on the mall.
Kathy handed out Edible Aspen's proposal for an ad. Kathy said the
agriculture vendors would rather do newspaper ads this year.
Roger moved that we not take an ad in Edible Aspen; second by Bill. All in
favor, motion carried 4-0.
Andrew suggested a Friday insert from Aspen Daily News and have
discounts from different vendors in the paper for the Saturday market. Also
coupons at every hotel etc. could be taken to the market.

Andrew said ACRA, Nancy Lesley and the CCLC should all get together for
the XMAS event discussion.
Bill also agreed that the three entities should be coordinated together not
separately.
Andrew said Nancy gets $20,000 for XMAS and $10,000 for the bike race.
More could go to XMAS.
Mitch said he will a-mail the retail association for ideas and see if they
would contribute $50 for the summer.
Andrew said more families will be on the mall due to the traveling situation.
We don't want empty spots. Andrew said TV's or murals could go into the
windows that do not have any business in them anymore.
Bill said economists say 2010 will be the bad year. We need long term
strategic planning. We need to look down the road.
Andrew said he will do a proposal for the summer at the market for every
other week. Kathy said she will get in contract with plum TV for the other
alternating weeks.
Motion: Bill moved to adjourn; second by Andrew. All in favor, motion
car~rie~d. Meet/ing adjourned at 10:00 a~.m.
