HomeMy WebLinkAboutcoa.cclc.min.093009COMMERCIAL CORE & LODGING COMMISSION MINUTES OF SEPTEMBER 30, 2009 Chairperson Terry Butler called the meeting to order at 8:30 a.m. Commissioners in attendance: Bill Dinsmoor, Andrew Kole and Don Sheeley. Fred Ayarza, John Starr and Mark Goodman were excused. Staff: Kathy Strickland, Chief Deputy City Clerk Holiday events: Nancy Lesley, Special Events Coordinator explained the event that the City and Aspen Skiing CO. are tentatively working on. Posters would be printed with the itinerary. The events would be Dec. 23, 24, 3151. Photograph with Santa at the gondola, bonfire, carolers etc. On the 23`d and 241h between 2:15 to 4:30 the activity would be skiing down the Little Nell with Santa. There is also going to be a tree lighting ceremony at the Gondola plaza. The bonfire would start around 3:30 in Wagner Park. Dec.3151 New Years 5:00 or 6:00 AVSC would do a ski demo with jumps in Wagner Park and then 8:30 to 9:00 fireworks would occur. After that there would be smaller programming until midnight. If there is no snow we would move to the skate board park. Nancy said this event can work within her budget. 12 days of Aspen Andrew said the ACRA can be the chief if funds are approved by Steve Barwick. Don asked if everything will run through the same marketing budget. Andrew said yes. The 261h day would be a discount shopping day. Andrew went over the tentative budget of $20,000. Event Coordinator $3,000 Outdoor Entertainment $8,000 Misc expenses $2,000 Marketing/advertising $7,000 The partnership would be the ACRA, CCLC, ASC and the City of Aspen. Bill and Terry agreed that we need carolers walking around. Hot chocolate could be served on the malls. Rosie Ross from Ross Andrew Jewelry store. Rosie said we need some vitality in downtown Aspen. We need to focus on the apre' ski time. It is our intent to bring traffic from the mountain to the malls. Create a fund festive event on the Hyman mall. Restaurants could serve alcohol on the mall with strict restrictions. Of the 26 businesses on the Hyman mall 13 are supportive of the event. Tuesday and Friday could be the music nights. We want to get the down valley people up to Aspen. Rosie said she will be working on getting funds from the businesses. CCLC said they would include the Hyman Mall Event in their 12 days of Aspen if funding is approved . CCLC discussed different ways to include Rosie's event and the 12 days of Aspen.
