MINUTES OF OCTOBER 21, 2009
Chairperson Terry Butler called the meeting to order at 8:30 a.m.
Commissioners in attendance: Andrew Kole, Don Sheeley and Fred
Ayarza. John Stan ,Bill Dinsmoor and Mark Goodman were excused.
Staff: Jackie Lothian
Terry said as she was parking her car she walked with Bruce Carlson,
dentist. Bruce said there are many empty downtown penthouses in town.
Terry said she was in New York and did not notice a recession in New York.
Fred said there are a lot of "dark" empty places in town and a lot of things
can be done in Aspen to bring it together. Everyone needs to pull the same
way.
Don pointed out that he and Andrew went to a special events meeting
regarding the $200,000 economic stimulus package to discuss new events
with staff and the city manager. The idea was one large event or many
smaller ones.
Andrew said the "12 days of Aspen" is a different funding. We don't need
any empty windows during XMAS.
Don thought landlords would work with people to keep their store fronts
full.
John Slotkin, public spoke about big businesses being able to rent store
fronts for a few weeks during the holidays.
Don mentioned that Marmot is moving into the back space of Amen Wardy
Andrew spoke about the Red Onion space still vacant.
MOTION: Fred made the motion to approve the minutes of Oct. 7th; second
by Andrew. All in favor, motion carried.
Don inquired about what was wrong with park for food vendors. Don said
he was against the $30 extra until we see a financial plan due to the
economic downturn. Fred agreed.
Terry pointed out that two women have changed their lines in the market
which is great.

Don and Fred requested the see the agriculture contract for the Saturday
market.
Fred said different markets have food courts.
Don asked John Slotkin why he wants to be on CCLC. John always
believed in Aspen and wants to see people do well.
Terry said she has known John for 25 years and he is very interested and
involved in the business of our town.
