MINUTES OF MAY 19, 2010
Bill Dinsmoor called the meeting to order at 8:30 a.m. Commissioners in
attendance: Andrew Kole, Don Sheeley and Fred Ayarza. Excused were
Terry Butler, Mark Goodman, Mark Zitelli and John Starr.
Staff: Kathy Strickland, Chief Deputy Clerk
Dexter Williams:
Dexter said he has been picking up trash, palates, mattresses etc. in the alley
behind the Brand building long enough. Dexter said he is cutting things up
all the time. No one is respectful of the compactor or recycling container.
On the recycling, people don't break down their boxes, they just throw them
in and it jams and then they put the boxes on the side.
Bill suggested possibly the trash companies need to change the combination.
Dexter said the trash company picks up the trash compactor and moves the
other trash to the side. At one point the city said they would come behind
the trash companies and pick up the excess trash.
I am dealing with mattresses and palates. The trash company is Waste
Management.
Staff said she will relay the message to Environmental Health to see what
resolutions there are.
Red Onion discussion:
Andrew said the fire marshal denied 7 tables in the middle of the mall.
1. The Red Onion can go to the city council and discuss it.
2. CCLC could join and support or Andrew said he could go himself.
The fire marshal said you would be stuck getting a fire truck down the
mall. The Red Onion is willing to use plastic tables and chairs.
Staff is to contact the city manager to discuss setting up a meeting to discuss
the mall and use of public spaces.
Andrew said he went to the fire board meeting and the board wouldn't
overrule Ed Van Walraven.

Andrew said Ed pointed out that you can't enter from both sides on Cooper
mall with a fire truck due to the statue.
Saturday Market:
Don requested that the Saturday Market publish in the hike and bike
brochure. Don said it is the only free hiking and biking map. 50,000 are
distributed. Everyone on the gondola gets one and the lodges etc. It would
be great advertising for tourists. The normal fee is $1,257. and we would
charge the market $600.
MOTION: Fred made the motion to approve the spending of $600 on the
hike and bike brochure; second by Bill. All in favor, motion carried.
e.Moo. Com
Andrew said the show would go on KSNO.
Radio would be the first hour and then cut into two TV shows. The second
hour would be promoting the outdoors of Aspen and the market. The good
part of the deal is that we get a radio spot, TV spot, aspen I phone, banner
and social medial. We are getting $7,000 worth of marketing and live radio
hook up.
Andrew said it is a good legitimate show. Social media is face book and
twitter. EMoo is looking at expanding their horizons.
eMoo.com is an online classified service. They sell everything.
Don asked how they are getting into the valley.
Andrew said AVSC and KSNO live. There would be 24 shows a week.
Aspen shines etc.
Fred and Don said we need to know how many hits occur at the end of the
season.
Don said TV is a big thing.
Bill said we need to promote our weekly guests that come here and what is
the best way to reach them. All our guests stay in lodging. An Aspen
Market bag could stay on a door.
