2009 Executive Summary
Over the holidays, Aspen was transformed into a Winter Wonderland. During the 12 Days of Aspen, December 20-
31, downtown came alive with everything from free ice skating and carriage rides to concerts and carolers.
Santa joined in the celebration, as did his reindeer Comet & Vixenl To top it all off, Aspen celebrated New Year's
Eve with a fireworks extravaganza over Aspen Mountain.
Purpose:
ACRA was approached by CCLC to implement a "12 days of Aspen" promotion aimed to add vitality to the
downtown core and provide additional value and experiences to the holiday visitor. ACRA worked with CCLC and
collaborated with the community to create a calendar of existing events being
held for the holidays, as well as adding Christmas music, entertainment and
family friendly activities throughout the 12 days promotion. Many of the events
were free or nearly free.
Impacts & Outcomes:
Sunday, December 20 - FREE SKATING, PIZZA & DJ
• 65 Adults and 70 kids participated
• 300 cookies from City Market
• 24 pizzas from Domino's Pizza
• Hot Chocolate for 100 people from Paradise Bakery
• DJ music by Rocky Mountain Deejays
• Granola bars donated by Cascadian Farms
• Approximately 300 people participated on a flow basis
Monday, December 21- CAROLERS & CUPCAKE DECORATING
• 60 iced cupcakes to decorate
• Granola bars donated by Cascadian Farms
• Approximately 200 people participated on a flow basis
Tuesday, December 22 - SANTA'S LIVE REINDEER & CAROLERS
• Starbucks provided FREE coffee & hot chocolate
• Granola bars donated by Cascadian Farms
• Elf / handler onsite to answer questions
• Approximately 450 people participated on a flow basis
Wednesday, December 23 - SANTA'S LIVE REINDEER
• Starbucks provided FREE coffee & hot chocolate
• Elf / handler onsite to answer questions
• Granola bars donated by Cascadian Farms
• Approximately 600 people participated on a flow basis
Friday, December 25 - FREE ORNAMENTS, CANDY CANES & CARRIAGE RIDES
• 250 mini candy canes
• Hot cider from European Caterers
• 100 "Aspen Colorado 2009" ornaments
• Christmas music
• Granola bars donated by Cascadian Farms
• Approximately 300 people participated on a flow basis
Saturday, December 26 - FREE CARRIAGE RIDES & STORY HOUR
• Approximately 350 people participated in the carriage rides
• 2 Carriages continuously looped through downtown core with visitors & locals to enjoy
• Granola bars donated by Cascadian Farms
Approximately 60 people attended story hour
• Hotel Jerome century room
• Cookies from Paradise Bakery
• Stories by Jill Sheeley & her dog Maggie
Tuesday, December 29 - FREE SKATING, PIZZA & FIDO The Skating Dog
• 79 Adults and 60 kids participated
• 300 cookies from City Market
• 32 pizzas from Domino's Pizza
• Hot Chocolate from Paradise Bakery
• Granola bars donated by Cascadian Farms
• Fido the Skating Dog joined in — a big hit with the kids!
• Approximately 350 people participated on a flow basis
