HomeMy WebLinkAboutcoa.cclc.min.051612COMMERCIAL CORE & LODGING COMMISSION MINUTES OF MAY 16, 2012 Chairperson, Andrew Kole called the meeting to order at 8:30 a.m. Commissioners in attendance: Bill Dinsmoor,Terry Butler, Riley.Tippet, Siam Castillo. Excused were Don Sheeley, Fred Ayarza and Kiki Raj. Staff. Kathy Strickland, Chief Deputy City Clerk Dan Nelson, Downtown Coordinator Jim True, City Attorney Motion: Siam moved to approve the minutes of May 2nd second by Riley. All in favor, motion carried. Ducky Derby Chris Bendon said the request is the same as last year for a tent to be up and the large Duck three weeks prior to the Ducky Derby event. The Rotarians hope for your continued support. The tent will be 20 x 20 with a sales desk and merchandise underneath. The event is August 11 to and the sales would start July 21 St through August l Otn Andrew asked if the Rotarians have thought of anything to improve sales and give a boost to the event. Chris said we have done on -line sales and we have a silent auction to promote the event. Siam suggested that they do a ducky on face book which will promote the purchase of the ducks. Bill asked where the proceeds go. Chris said the ducks sell for $10.00 each. Part of the proceeds goes back to Ducky Derby to lease the ducks. The rest goes to local charities. Andrew said this event is driven by kids and ducks. Chris said a lot of members like doing all the work. Motion: Riley moved to approve the Ducky Derby; second by Bill. All in favor, motion carried. COMMERCIAL CORE & LODGING COMMISSION MINUTES OF MAY 16, 2012 LaCreperie Du Village Raphael said he serves crepes. The request is to serve liquor upstairs on both sides of the restaurant. It will always be clean and neat. The chairs will be brought downstairs. I have been in business for 20 years and I do not drink. I will have control on the sidewalk. Siam said the diagram looked good and she would approve the outside seating. Bill asked what is in the square? Raphael said they will have something like a couch and table. Bill also asked about the bus station. Raphael said it will be downstairs. Terry asked when they opened. Raphael said Dec. 12`" last year. Raphael said he has an amazing staff and has learned so much. Terry asked if the kitchen can handle the extra seating. Ralphael said he has been working with Environmental Health and he feels it will work. The seating capacity is 40 downstairs. Terry said we love dining alfresco but you need to be able to handle it. Andrew said he sees two problems; standing at the bar and mingling in the sidewalk. How are you going to serve them through the cross walk. Jim True said the city will authorize an easement to walk across and deliver it. Andrew said one of the servers should monitor people drinking and bringing drinks off the premises. Raphael said if we get busy I will recommend that people wait for tables down stairs. From the bottom of my heart I will keep the area clean. Bill asked if they were using glass or plastic. Raphael said that is a good question. Bill said we advocate alfresco dining but glass is one more problem. Bill said he would suggest that plastic be used on the public right -of -way. I hope this works. Siam said the Sky Hotel uses plastic wine glasses. 0 COMMERCIAL CORE & LODGING COMMISSION MINUTES OF MAY 16, 2012 Bill said we are advocates with the city to make this work. We are here to make you successful. Motion: Terry made the motion to approve La Creperie Du Village second by Siam. All in favor, motion carried. Bill suggested marking the street for the waiters to make sure they are aware of the dimensions and possibly have two flower pots out from the heaters to help designate the area. Ziah — leather skirt Riley pointed out that this is not a product that is sellable. Bill said this doesn't qualify and putting snaps on isn't enough. This is pushing down on the market. Terry said she thinks she qualifies. You have to be really good to do what they are doing: Her behavior merits selling the skirt at the market. Riley said it would be better if the skirt didn't have the pocket. The blank isn't a product. She has turned it into something that is sellable. Siam said this product takes time to do and the design can be challenging. It will also enhance her booth and it is an upper end product. Motion: Siam moved to approve Ziah selling leather'skirts in her booth; second by Terrry. Roll call vote: Siam, yes; Riley,yes; Bill, no; Terry, yes; Andrew, yes. Commissioner comments: Bill mentioned the lighting project and the fact that we need a budget. Kathy said she will follow up with Randy to see where we are.
