Description: The City acquired the lot now known as Newbury Park in 1978 as
part of a land trade. The agreement was between several parties including the
Creektree Subdivision, The Fraternal Order of the Eagles, The City of Aspen and
Andre Ulrych. Originally named Creektree it was later designated Newbury Park
after longtime County Chief Building Inspector Patsy Newbury and her husband
Don who worked many years for the City of Aspen. Both were officers of the
Aspen Eagles Aerie #184.
Andre Ulrych donated approximately 2 acres of land adjoining the river to be
designated for parks purposes only, in exchange for the City owned Bus
Station. Ulrich acquired the bus station and built a new Eagles building in
exchange for the old Eagles building located at 312 S. Galena St. Ulrich then
remodeled that building into a bar and restaurant later to be known as Andre’s.
The property acquired by the City is now an important part of the City’s
greenway system tying Herron Park to the Rio Grande Park.
