MINUTES OF JANUARY 2, 2013
Vice-chair, Don Sheeley called the meeting to order at 8:30 a.m. Commissioners
in attendance were Siam Castillo, Bill Dinsmoor, Terry Butler, Riley Tippet. Don
welcomed and introduced Hana Pevny our new alternate member. Absent were
Kiki Raj and Andrew Kole.
Minutes: Riley moved to approve the minutes of December 19, second by Terry.
All in favor, motion carried.
Dan Nelson said he and his crew were cleaning up from New Years.
Don asked about Escobar and the ice bar.
Terry said the bar is beautiful and the right size.
Dan said they are doing what we wanted and it is drawing people to it. A lot of
photographs were being taken.
Children's tree lighting
Don said we had 15 people and it was a great idea and we can build on it. There
were about 150 decorations put on the tree. Next year we should have some music
or carolers or students singing.
Terry said she feels the icicle lights were sparsely spaced. Last year it was the talk
of the town. People noticed the icicles and this year there didn't seem to be
enough.
Dan said he would make note of that for next year.
Siam said people on the Hyman Mall were against a block party on the mall to
create more business and get a special event permit. Ian Perry said he was going to
try to do that right before XMAS. Ian Perry got very nervous about his neighbors
not in support due to the issues from the mall lease in the summer.
Hana suggested doing something in April to try and get people here.
Don suggested having Debbie Braun come down at the next meeting and see what
kind of events are going on in April.

Don said the area by Pomeroy Sports is very dangerous. People are walking out
in front of cars. The area in front of the gondola is very dangerous.
Dan said he would pass that on to the police or engineering.
Hana said people think just because the roads have snow they can walk in the
middle of the streets. They just walk out in front of everyone.
Bill mentioned the lighting and winter fest and the fact that we need a professional
to put this together.
Riley asked about the time frame of the Winterskol ice sculptures and how long
they are kept up.
Dan said he leaves them up as long as possible because they are snow sculptures
and it is winter. When it becomes dangerous he takes them down.
Terry said we need to have a plan in place for the winter fest.
Hana said she has been working with a family and she went to Germany and loves
the XMAS market. In the old towns merchants have displays like the nut cracker
and they have a little bit of an amusement park. They have pretzels, chestnuts etc.
The layout is similar to the art fair that Aspen has. There are booths that closed at
night. It runs from Dec. 1 st to January 6th. The concern would be that the market
would take away from the local businesses.
Hana explained being able to serve wine outside is a big deal. It would be great to
have something like that here.
Bill said we can use the city website and download the pictures from YouTube.
We need to tell the story. The response to push back, if we can get people here it is
the businesses responsibility to get them into their stores. A month long market
allows people 30 days to sell their product. We also need the 3d lighting video.
We need to determine how it might work here.
Hana said in the winter the booths are heated.
Kathy said at the Saturday market people had propane heaters.

Bill said tuff shed makes kiosks. In Europe they have wooden sheds that break
down. We need to also have adequate electricity. Bill suggested the east side of
Wagner Park. There are different sizes depending on what you are selling and how
it should be displayed. We also need to have a business plan. We need to hire a
professional producers to do this.
Riley said town was slammed these past few weeks.
Terry said the first week in December there weren't a lot of people around.
Riley said the Ausie's are going to Japan to ski and getting a great deal.
Hana said she has a place in London and she goes every year in December.
Terry said she lost revenue the first week for a lot of different reasons. We need to
find something to bring people in the last week of November and first three weeks
of December. We also need to look at other means of making snow. We need
lighting and we need a village. We need another plan to bring people here.
Bill said we need leadership.
Don requested that the City Manager come to the next meeting and Debbie Braun
from the ACRA to see if they are interested in this idea.
Bill also suggested Adam Frisch who is interested in the idea.
MOTION: Riley moved to adjourn; second by Siam. All in favor, motion carried.
Meeting adjourned at 10:00 a.m.
