MINUTES OF FEBRUARY 6 2012
Vice-chair, Don Sheeley called the meeting to order at 8:30 a.m.
Commissioners in attendance: Bill Dinsmoor, Riley Tippet , Siam
Castillo, Terry Butler, Kiki Raj and Hana Pevny. Andrew Kole was
absent.
MOTION: Riley moved to approve the minutes of January 16th second
by Bill. All in favor, motion carried.
Dan Nelson gave an update on the mall and he is getting ready for the
summer and working on the turf. The grass needs to be put in at Wagner
Park in the fall. We are working at taking down the garland on the street
polls.
Dan said they are going to add more electrical outlets on the mall.
Bill said he hopes they put up more power that will be needed if the
Winter Fests goes through.
Riley said he has a draft e-mail to go out to the businesses. Riley also
said he added our mission statement.
Terry handed out an article written by Roger Marolt on snow making. It
has been about the last 10 years that we have had less snow since
Thanksgiving. We need to encourage Ski Co. to upgrade their
equipment so we can have the soft snow. The basis of a ski resort is
having good snow.
Don suggested we have Mike Kaplin come down or David Perry from
the Skiing Company.
Kiki said at Snowmass they put a blanket down in the summer to help
the snow as a test to see if it works. We could also get an update on that
experiment.

Winter Festival
Don said Bill, Riley and I met with Debbie Braun from the ACRA.
They are enthusiastic. It would be nice to get the restaurant and retail
association to get them excited and on board as to how this would work
for them.
Hana said she feels we should talk to someone who handled the Chicago
XMAS market. Hana said she is going to Europe at the end of the
month and will do some research.
Riley said we have support from the chamber and we need to get support
from the lodging and restaurants. We need to find someone who can do
this proficiently.
Don said we are trying to get people to come here to Aspen.
Hanna said we need to get someone involved that does it for a living.
We need a good marketing setup. The promoter will look at the
situation and determine if it is feasible or not.
Hana said the producer of the event would have information that we
need. I am not positive we should do it an entire month. Maybe start it
at mid month.
Kiki said new events have difficulty getting started.
Riley said we need to first find a promoter.
Hana said we should identify the events we want and then go find a
private promoter. Match .com has an entire new business. Is there a
company that does this or can we go to a local company here in Aspen.
Don said the idea is to fill up the first two weeks of December in Aspen.
