Director of Sponsorships & Events
Job Description
To develop and manage a Sponsorship and Events Departmen, including but not
limited to determining appropriate staffing, operations and budget in order to
reach the goals listed below, while being self-financed within three years.
Specific Goals
· To generate national sponsorships and media exposure for events hosted
in Aspen.
· To act as a liaison between the City of Aspen, current event management,
new event management, and potential sponsors either local or national.
· To act as a liaison between Aspen retailers, lodges and restaurants to
ascertain interest in sponsorship of Aspen based events.
· To act as a liaison between the City of Aspen, current event management,
and new event with the goal being to retain and/or extend commitments
for the event to take place in Aspen.
· To explore potential new events with the objective being to generate
income during slow in-season weekends and shoulder season weekends.
Under Who's Watch?
Where this department would fit in is a very important question. The choices
seem to vary with pluses and minuses in all cases.
City of Aspen
An obvious choice although the potential politics it might generate could render it
less than ideal in respect to getting things accomplished in a number of
situations.
ACRA
At one time the obvious #1 choice, but after watching the current staff operate in
respect to HBO Comedy Festival and Ski Splash, combined with statements from
staff that this is not what they do would seem to eliminate them from the picture.
CCLC
A dark horse the beginning the CCLC currently looks like the best place to begin.
Independent Consulting Company
This might just be the best way to go but for the fact they would have no real
presence in the system and it would be very difficult to place controls on them.
Summary
A good start to what is potentially an excellent idea. What needs to be done now
is a great deal of work.
