Box 3421 Aspen, CO 81612 .r /: I Y' 'I, v.'., , c , Re: Aspen Grove Bldg Signs Dear Mr. Burke: On June 7, 1984, you went before the City Board of Adjustment to legitimize two illegal signs hanging from the Aspen 'Grove Building entrance canopies. In Case #84-8 the Board of Adjustment denied your request. These signs were then removed. It has been brought to my attention through an anonymous complaint that these signs have been put back in place in violations of City codes. Section 24-5.11 of the Aspen Municipal Code states, "Permit Required. It shall be unlawful to erect, construct, reconstruct, alter, paint, repaint or change the use of any sign as defined in this chapter without first obtaining a sign permit from the building inspector. Provided, however, that a sign permit shall not be required to repaint exactly as it was previously any of the aforesaid which at the time of the proposed repainting conform in all respects with the provisions of this article. There shall be imposed a fee of five dollars ($5.00) for each sign permit issued." Section 24-14.5(b) of the Aspen Municipal Code states, "Violations and remedies. Any person or corporation, whether as principal, agent or employee who violates any provision of this zoning code shall be, for each offense, punished by a fine of not exceeding three hundred dollars ($300.00) or imprisonment for a period ofnot more than ninety (90) days, or both such fine and imprisonment. Each day any violation of this zoning code shall continue will constitute a separate offense." The aforemention signs must be removed within 10 days of receipt of this letter.
