Being able tosafely and securely operate a windowwhich has safe guards in place to helpcontrol the windows opening so as toprevent accidental falls, while at thesame time being able to be easilyopened for egress purposes in case ofan emergency, is critical in today’sbuilding projects. As a market leader in fenestration hard-ware, Truth engineered, patented, andmanufactured a WOCD that meets therequirements of ASTM F2090-10. TheASTM F2090 addresses window fallprevention that helps protect againstpotential falls by children through openwindows. This is done by allowingthe window opening to be set at a pre-determined position of less than fourinches (4”) and automatically re-latchwhen fully closed. Truth’s CasementSafeGard™ WOCD provides a meansthat the window, when opened in aninitial operation, will limit the ventingto less than 4”. By code, two actionsare required to open the window fullyfor egress purposes. This additionaloperation can be performed without theuse of keys, tools, or special knowl-edge.SafeGard™ Window Opening ControlDevice is designed to allow for factoryinstallation as well as field applicationby trained personnel. Armassembly has a decal with simple oper-ating instruction, and track is assem-bled with visible colored plastic to dis-cern the separate operations. APPLICATION AND EASE OFINSTALLATION:For ease of instal-lation, the track will self locate to theframe. The arm is located on the sashusing a template (#92251) with printedinstructions. ORDERING INFORMATION:Before ordering device for your applica-tion, please make sure the handing ofthe device is correct for your windows.To determine the correct handing, viewthe window from the exterior of thedwelling. When the hinge is on theleft, it is a left handed window. Before installation, TruthHardware recommends that you con-sult with local building codes foregress size applicability and require-ments. Standard egress openingtypically requires a 24” wide sashopening. For other applications,the minimum sash opening requiredfor Truth’s SafeGardTM device is a21” wide sash.2. Confirm the hinge cavity (Fig.1) to ensure the mounting surfacesfor the WOCD’s track and arm areclearly identified. The WOCD’strack should be the same plane asthe hinge track, and the WOCD’sarm should be mounted on thesame plane as the sash arm on thesash profile. 3.Please check the hinge cavitydimension to confirm the casementWOCD will fit your window. Thestandard hinge cavity should nomi-nally be 0.719” W x 0.438” H. Please refer to Fig. 1 for WOCD (armand track) mounting surface, Fig. 2afor arm installation on the sash, and2b for installation position of the trackon the frame. If you have any ques-tions, please contact the window man-ufacturer for further information.4. Determine the window handing.This will ensure the correct WOCDdevice for the application. Specify leftor right hand device for your order(please see table 1 below for part num-bers)5. Determine if your order will beOEM* part numbers (bulk pack forfactory installation) or kit part num-bers (single packed for field installa-tion by trained personnel). For OEMapplication, additional accessories (*)should also be identified and orderedalong with the OEM part numbers.Field kit will be bagged to includecomplete WOCD arm and track, win-dow label decal, screws, and installa-tion template.
