John,
Thank you for your follow-up, here is BMA’s answers to your questions:
1. We are in the process of getting the Special Inspection form signed by all parties
2. Existing roof assembly is non-vented, we plan to keep it a non-vented roof
a. Exterior to Interior – Non vented roof assembly
i. Fire rated shake roof
ii. Cedar Breather drainage mat
iii. Roofing Felt Underlayment – 72lb cap sheet
iv. Ice & Water shield – CCW WIP 300HT
v. 5/8" CDX Plywood
vi. Existing skip sheathing to remain
vii. Existing 2x6 framing to remain
viii. New Framing members to be in line with existing 2x6 framing (top of existing
2x6 = top of new framing)
ix. New Steel or wood framing supports (see structural drawings) under existing
framing w/ shimming as needed
x. Insulation between existing & new framing members: Spray foam or batt
insulation to meet City of Aspen Energy Code
xi. 1/2" plywood sheeting to plain our inside framing (as needed)
xii. Vapor retarder (if needed, used with batt insulation)
xiii. 5/8” drywall
3. Here is our logistic plan for the roof:
a. Existing 2x6 framing will “gently & slowly” be pushed back into place, as much as
possible
b. Once framing is as flush as possible new structural members will be installed under the
existing framing to support the roof in the new location
i. Please note we will be losing interior ceiling height space by 2-3”
c. Shimming will be needed between the bottom of the existing framing and the new
structural members
d. New framing will be placed between existing framing or sistered on to the sides of
existing framing for support
e. New roof sheathing will be placed over the existing skip sheathing for support and to
flush out the exterior of the roof for a flush plywood deck
Please let me know if you have any further questions, we will submit the Special Inspection form ASAP.
Sincerely, Jamie

Jamie,
Good afternoon. Please address the following in advance of permit submittal:
• Signed Special Inspection form
• Roof Assembly Showing Ventilation and/or Insulation
• Will you be replacing the roof sheathing as well? If not, how do you plan to address the bent
nature of the sheathing combined with the square beams?
Thanks,
John
