PLEASE LEAVE WITH HOMEOWNER INSTALLATION AND OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS This appliance is to be burned only in an approved woodburning Fireplace with adequate chimney draft. When burning, the chimney damper must be FULLY OPEN. This appliance must be installed in a fireplace which operates properly when wood fires are burned. • For best results, natural gas pressure must be 7” to 10-1/2” water column. • If used with glass fireplace doors, burn with doors in open position. • Do not burn wood or other items with this appliance. Please Note: It is important that you read instructions before installing or operating this appliance MANUFACTURED BY: 4301 WESTGROVE DRIVE ADDISON, TX 75001 The installation, including provisions for combustion and ventilation air, must conform with local codes or, in the absence of local codes, with the National Fuel Gas Code, ANSI Z223.1-1988 and NFPA54-1988. The appliance and its individual shutoff valve must be disconnected from the gas supply piping system when testing at test pressures in excess of 1/2 psig. The appliance must be isolated from the gas supply piping system by closing its individual manual shutoff valve during any pressure testing of gas-supply system at test pressures equal to or less than 1/2 psig. This is accomplished by closing the gas supply line valve, which is required by NFPA 54, section 5.54 The minimum inlet gas supply pressure for the purpose of input adjustment is 7” WC for Natural Gas and 11” WC for Propane Gas. The maximum inlet gas supply pressure for this burner is 10.5” for Natural Gas and 13” for Propane Gas. This appliance is designed for use with Natural Gas unless clearly labeled for Propane (LP). Never use Propane Gas in an appliance designed for Natural Gas or Natural Gas in an appliance designed for use of Propane Gas. FOR YOUR SAFETY If you smell gas: 1. Open Windows. 2. Attach damper clamp to fireplace damper to prevent damper from being fully closed. 2. Position burner assembly into fireplace and position in center of floor. 3. Attach Gas connector to gas supply line and connect to burner assembly. Use soapy water to check connections for leaks. (Figure 3-1) 4. Pour silica sand into burner pan completely covering pipe in pan. For LP Gas models, use vermiculite instead of sand. (Figure 3-2) NOTE! Optional decorative fireglass can be susbstituted for silica sand or vermiculite (LP) for a more contemporary design if desired (Figure 3-5). 5. Place glowing ember material over sand (Vermiculite LP). (Figure 3-3) Note: Not used if optional decorative fireglass is used. Spread the black volcanic cinders in front of and on sides of Linear Burner (Figure 3-4) NOTE! Optional Decorative Fireglass can also be used in place of black volcanic cinders. (Figure 3-5) YOU ARE NOW READY TO LIGHT THE BURNER BY TURNING THE FIREPLACE GAS VALVE ON AND USING A LONG MATCH OR BUTANE LOG LIGHTER. LIGHT THE BURNER BY POSITIONING MATCH OR LIGHTER JUST OVER BURNER WHILE TURNING ON THE GAS VALVE. DURING THE FIRST FEW HOURS OF OPERATION, AN OCASSIONAL POPPING SOUND CAN BE HEARD AS A RESULT OF THE METAL EXPANDING FROM HEAT. THIS WILL STOP AFTER A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME. Lighting instructions for “Alpine Linear Burners” with a millivolt, spark to pilot, or S-model “Skytech Hi/Lo” valve located on subsequent pages of this manual. Figure 3-1 Figure 3-2 Figure 3-3 Figure 3-4 Figure 3-5 DAMPER MUST BE IN FULL OPEN POSITION BEFORE LIGHTING. 6/22/2018 LIGHTING INSTRUCTIONS FOR “S-MODEL” SKYTECH REMOTE HI-LO MOTOR MODELS To Turn OFF Gas To Appliance 1.Turn off switch or remote. 2.Remove Decorative Front 3.Turn control knob clockwise to “PILOT” 4.Depress control knob slightly and turn clockwise to “OFF” A.The Golden Blount appliance has a pilot which must be lit by hand. When lighting the pilot, follow these instructions exactly. B.Before Lighting, smell all around the area for gas. Be sure to smell next to the floor because some gas is heavier than air and will settle on the floor. WHAT TO DO IF YOU SMELL GAS •Do not try to light any appliance. •Do not touch any electrical switch, do not use any phone in your building. •Immediately call your gas supplier from your neighbor’s phone. Follow the gas supplier’s instructions. •If you cannot reach your gas supplier, call the fire department. C.Use only your hand to push in or turn gas control knob. Never use tools. If the knob will not push in or turn by hand, don’t try to repair it. Call a qualified service technician. Force or attempted repair may result in fire or explosion. D.Do not use the appliance if any part has been under water. Immediately call a qualified service technician to inspect the appliance set and to replace any part of the control system and any gas control system and any gas control which has been under water. E.FIREPLACE DAMPER MUST BE FULLY OPENED. FOR YOUR SAFETY, READ BEFORE LIGHTING Pilot Burner Location Decorative Front Screw Remote Control Connector 1.“Stop!” First read the safety information at the left. 2. Remove two screws from sides of burner and take off decorative front to access control valve. 3. Turn the control to the “OFF” position. To do this, you must turn the knob clockwise to the “PILOT” position and then press in and continue turning clockwise to the “OFF” position. 4.WAIT FIVE (5) MINUTES TO CLEAR OUT ANY GAS. If you then smell gas, STOP! Follow step “B” in the safety information at the left. If you don’t smell gas, go to the next step. 5. To put the control in the pilot position, turn the control knob counter-clockwise to the“PILOT” position. 6. To light the pilot, depress the control knob and light the pilot using a long match or extended butane lighter. The control knob should be held IN for 1 minute. 7. Release the control knob. The pilot should remain lit after releasing. 8. Turn the control knob counter-clockwise to the “ON” position. 9. Connect RCAF-1031 Remote control receiver to connector on control valve and position receiver behind burner assembly on floor of fireplace. 10. Replace decorative front and follow operation instructions supplied with RCAF-1031 Remote Control. Remove two screws from sides of burner and take off decorative front to access control compartment. 3. Install two “D” batteries into Battery Pack located in control compartment. 4. Replace Decorative Front 5. Safety Pilot Assemblies, Gas Control Valves, Flame Sensors and other ignition components are covered for one year. This warranty does not cover parts subjected to misuse, abuse, improper handling or improper installation. The GB warranty specifically excludes any liability for indirect, incidental or consequential damage to property. Defective parts should be returned to your dealer or to the factory prepaid with a copy of your sales receipt.
