Activity a. The Outdoor Seminar Patio is located to the West of the Aspen Center for Physics Parking lot and Stranahan Hall. 2. Construction Staging a. A staging area will be located at the South West corner of the Outdoor Seminar Patio, close to Bethe Hall. 3. Parking a. All construction vehicles will park at the Aspen Center for Physics parking lot at the intersection of Gillespie Avenue and Sixth Street. b. There will be no on street parking during construction. c. Where possible construction workers will park at the Brush Creek and Hwy 82 Intercept lot and take RAFTA to 4th and Main. 4. Site Access a. The Outdoor Seminar Patio will be accessed from the Gravel Parking lot at the intersection of Gillespie Avenue and Sixth Street. b. There is a ditch, to the East of the Outdoor Seminar Patio, which will be covered by a steel plate (or temporarily filled in during construction). c. The ditch will be restored to its original state following construction. The area will be photographed before, during and after construction to ensure proper restoration of the surroundings. 5. Power a. Temporary power during construction will be supplied to the Outdoor Seminar Patio via Stranahan Hall. b. Electrical service for the outdoor classroom will be either from solar or from the existing panel at Stranahan Hall. 6. Facilities, site water and sanitation a. Lavatories and water closets will be supplied to the Outdoor Seminar Patio during construction via Stranahan Hall. b. Fresh water will be available via Stranahan Hall for all sub trades. 7. Water- a frost proof bib is accessible from Stranahan Hall. 8. Snow removal- will be provided by the Aspen Center for Physics. 9. Site protection a. The existing CMU walls will be covered in temporary sheathing in order to protect the existing finish. b. Temporary fencing will be erected for the location and installation of the drywell. c. Temporary fencing will be erected for the location and installation of conduit running from Stranahan Hall. 10. Special considerations a. Wetlands- not applicable b. Hazardous site conditions- not applicable, the existing ditch will be bridged or filled temporally for the duration of construction. c. Any fueling of vehicles or machinery must be conducted in a designated area, at the gravel Aspen Center for Physics parking lot, in order to prevent accidental leakage or spills. d. Storm and sediment control- the only area disturbed will be the ditch to the North of 12/11/2018 the site, it will be restored to its original state at the completion of construction. e. Noise- i. Work will take place weekdays between 7:00 AM and 6:00 PM Mountain Time, Monday through Saturday. The site is 200’ from Gillespie Avenue and approximately 235’ from the nearest residence. The distance between the parking lot and the site is approximately 60’. ii. Any construction related activity that produces a decibel reading at the property line of greater than 90 decibels at any time shall be coordinated with the City of Aspen Building Department. iii. The Aspen Center for Physics program, both internal and public programs will not be in session during construction. The Aspen Center for Physics programming is completed at the end of September for the season. iv. At this time no blasting is anticipated. f. Pile Driving- not applicable g. Air and dust management- not applicable h. Construction waste recycling i. Construction debris- The two waste streams are wood and concrete. Both streams will be sent to Pitkin County Landfill ii. During construction we will have one roll-off dumpsters for construction waste iii. When necessary, dumpsters will be transferred to the Pitkin County Landfill during operating hours. iv. We will identify any potential diversion streams with the sub-contractors. v. The contractor will maintain the construction site and keep it clear of trash and debris. vi. All efforts will be made to minimize waste and identify materials for recycling diversion. i. Material storage- i. We will store and stage materials to the Southwest of the Outdoor Seminar Patio. ii. The potential materials needing storage are aluminum and polycarbonate j. Drainage- the only area impacting drainage will be the existing ditch to the North of the Outdoor Seminar Patio. We will either fill the ditch or provide a steel or similar bridge necessary to transport materials and construction vehicles to the site. k. High impact events: The Contractor will be responsible to coordinate the three high impact events: the removal of the existing concrete pad, the installation of the new concrete footers and concrete pad and the erection of the steel structure. 11. Trees and vegetation a. As the existing concrete masonry walls are to remain, so to will the surrounding Aspen trees. No trees will be removed. b. Grape ivy and herbs/plants will be planted once construction of the remodeled Outdoor Seminar Patio is complete. c. The existing Virginia Creeper (Grape Ivy) will be stored on site with the largest possible root ball. It will be placed in #10 buckets (or similar) and watered every three weeks. 12. Grade a. The site is at approximately 7909’. b. The grade between the parking lot, the Outdoor Seminar Patio and the staging are relatively flat, there is no activity where the slope exceeds 30% 13. International Fire Code a. Cutting and welding activities for precast erection, safety cabling, steel pipe and structural steel will be done in accordance with the International Fire Code. 14. Inspection: an AISC certified inspector will inspect all shop and field welds. 15. Survey: a Survey will be conducted following excavation. 12/11/2018 16. Clean up a. The contractor shall keep the premises and surrounding area free from accumulation of waste materials or rubbish caused by operations under the contract. b. At completion of work, the contractor shall remove waste materials, rubbish, the contractors tools construction equipment machinery and surplus materials from the jobsite. c. Unsightly premises- we will walk the jobsite and surrounding area daily to keep the premises clean of any construction debris. d. The surrounding landscape will be returned to its original state at the completion of construction. 12/11/2018
