The existing living room ceiling support is 1” hat channel screwed to steel channels that are hung from structure above with tie wire. The hat channel has been cut up and is missing significant sections that are in need of repair. To create a continuous system for supporting the new ceiling with drywall, plywood, and casework, the following should be installed: • 7/8” tall, 25 gauge (min) hat channel, spaced 24” oc (this can be a combination of existing or new) • Attached hat channel to existing channels at 48” oc OR where channels do not exist, hang hat channel from steel decking above with 12 ga hanger wire at 48” oc. • Re-attached any existing hat channel to steel at the spacing indicated above. This system has the capacity to support the new casework planned for the ceiling as well as drywall. We have also reviewed adding a second layer of 5/8” drywall to the Chair 9 ceiling and do not see an issue with the existing structure if an second layer of drywall is added. Please feel free to contact us with any questions. Sincerely, Dodson Harper, P.E., S.E. Principal Engineer 05/14/2019 05/21/2019 justinh
