Please refer to attached.
Below is a list of questions from Midwest Steel for the vertical braces within the project.
1. Vertical brace elevation #3/S202, please confirm the work point for the lower "K" bracing is not centered within the
columns.
2. Vertical brace elevation #4/S202, The columns on each side of the brace are depicted as being a continuous column
from foundation up-to the roof. The plans on S103 show stacked columns on Grid G and are unclear about what is going
on at Grid F. Please clarify how this vertical brace is to be framed. Would it be acceptable to frame the W21x48s at
elevation 115-8 ½ into the columns with a shear tab? (beam reactions are not given.)
3. Please confirm the angle degree of the vertical braces shown in the elevation on S202, are for graphical representation
only and are not to be regarded as the correct angle. (i.e. The work points of the beams/columns are to be held as the
correct "position" for framing of the bracing.)
4. SSK-7 is calling for 1 ½ base plates, whereas A/S203 is calling for the vertical brace work point to be 2" above
concrete. Please confirm the work point of the vertical brace is to be held at the top of the base plate and center of the
column for all braces, and not held at 2" above concrete.
Suggestion
Answer Date Answered: 9/25/2018
1. The work point should be at the column center line.
2. Yes, the W21 may be connected to the side of the continuous column. (28k reaction)
3. Angle adjustments may be made to maintain proper orientations and work points.
4. That is correct.
