Daniel Gartner 1 Question Date Required: 9/28/2018 Please refer to attached. 1. Are we supposed to use ASD or LRFD to design connections? 2. MSW usually orders a "Dual-Certified" HSS material that will certify for both A500B and A500C. Is this acceptable to use material with a greater yield strength than the stand alone A500B? (I have attached a sample mill cert of an HSS6x6x1/4 for reference.) 3. On sheet S100, which shows the Entry Canopy, there are (3) W10x12s between Grids G.9-I.9. Per SSK-10, SSK-11, and SSK-12, there are HSS5x5x3/8 posts bearing on these W10x12s. I believe the HSS5x5 posts are to weld directly down to the W10x12, however the W10x12 only has a 4" wide flange. Please advise if a base plate connection is to be used, if the HSS5x5 are to weld to the W10x12s and overhang the top flange, or if an alternate beam size (with a wider top flange) is to be used? 4. On A101, near Grids A and 0, there is a 9 ¼ dimension off Grid 0 to what I believe is the face of brick. This is different that the dimension that is given on SSK-12 from Grid 0 to face of brick. Please advise. a. Note on sheet A101, there are dimensions along Grid J coming from Grid 5 up to the northern face of the building along Grid 0, that matches the 9 ¼" b. Along Grid 0, wall type 11 is to be used. The total width of this wall type is 1-4 ½, per A001. Assuming the "exterior side" of the CMU wall is to be placed on Grid (as depicted in 5/A702), then the exterior face of the brick is 8 7/8" off Grid 0. 5. On sheet S100, Please supply the dimension from Grid 2.1 to the southern face of the perimeter edge angle for the entry canopy. 6. On S104, At Grids 1&I.9, the sloping W18x35 is picking up the end of the W14x22. MSW would like to use a double clip angle connection here, however the W14 would have to pass-by Grid I.9 by 4". Is this acceptable, or would a different connection be suggested? Yes, that is acceptable. 3. An overhanging 3/8" base plate is acceptable. 4. Dimension should be 8 3/8" from face of CMU to the face of concrete stem wall. 5. Set edge angle at outside face of beam. 6. It is acceptable for the W14x22 to extend 4" past Grid I.9.
