Question Date Required: 11/22/2018
FCI has the following questions regarding the finish of structural steel both at the Trash enclosure structure and the main
building:
1. Midwest Steel has fabricated all of the steel members for the trash enclosure and they have all been galvanized. Please
confirm it is acceptable for all of the steel members within the steel enclosure to be hot dipped galvanized.
2. Please advise if any of the steel members for the trash enclosure will be required to be painted. All of the steel
members are currently galvanized, please provide preparation requirements to paint over galvanizing.
3. Per PR-010 the exterior handrails have been changes from a galvanized finish to a primed and painted finish. The
specifications do not call for a certain prep of the handrails prior to painting. Midwest Steel can provide a SP6 Surface
Prep (Sand Blasted) finish prior to the primer or Midwest Steel can provide a SP2 Surface Prep (Hand Tool Clean) prior to
the primer. Please clarify is to which prep type will be required, the SP2 prep is a less expensive option if acceptable.
4. Please confirm the handrail at the balcony on the south side of the building is to be primed and painted and galvanizing
is not required.
5. Please confirm the exterior stairs at the northwest corner of the new building are to be completely galvanized.
