Per the attached pictures of existing conditions, the existing retaining wall will have to be demolished and the steel fence will have to be removed. Please provide clarification and a detail for the install of the fence after the sidewalk has been poured. Please also confirm it is acceptable to remove some of the existing retaining wall to make room for the new sidewalk. Suggestion Answer Date Answered: 9/19/2018 Richard Goulding met with Brian Young on 9/18/2018 to discuss this issue and arrived on the below solution. The existing retaining wall will be demolished approximately 4" to the north of the edge of the proposed sidewalk to allow for the new curb wall to be installed. The existing fence will be removed in this area up to the next 4" steel post. This section of fence will be replaced at a later date once the parts can be ordered. The attached detail, which was used for the original installation of this fence, should be followed. Instead of embedding the post into the retaining wall, the post should be welded to the steel plat and four epoxy anchor bolts should be used to anchor this plate to the existing wall.
