Activities:
o Dog Day Afternoon Community Carnival July 8, 2018
It was a total success. Approximately 1,000 citizens were in attendance. A
percentage of the funds raised went to the Aspen Community Foundation to
distribute to the victims of the Lake Christine Fire.
o Farmer’s Market/Adoptions
Are always a success and a good turnout for adoptions.
o Summer Activities at the Shelter
There is a Shelter Mentorship Program at the shelter. There are 3-4 children
mentored at a time. They help out at the shelter as well as the Farmers
Market and other activities throughout the year. The children are a real asset
to Animal Shelter and the staff as well as loving the program.
o Building Maintenance up dates
Heating system was inspected and repairs were made.
Repairs were made to the 1 bedroom apartment deck/stairwell/storage,
as well as to the roof over the elevator shaft.
No repairs have been initiated for the compromised cinder blocks and/or the deteriorating metal work
under the 1 bedroom apartment deck.
Additionally, no repairs have been initiated for the 2 bedroom apartment deck/stairwell/storage.
o Needs----None at this time
o Issues---
Other repairs to the infrastructure were not complete as planned. ReRe
will talk with Brian Pettet about the City excluding this part of the
project. Seth told us the City Asset Department had to discuss the
finances to fund the needed repairs with City Officials.
5. Public Comment--none
6. Old Business
The Cat room improvement to extend the windows was revisited. Yasmine and ReRe will
work together gathering estimates for the construction and will present findings at the
April 2019 meeting. If all is approved by the board, hopefully construction could start the
summer of 2019.
7. New Business
Starting November 1, 2018 the shelter will spay and neuter all shelter animals. Dr. Scott
Dolginow will be the lead veterinarian.
Dr. Jen Davis and Tracey Yajko will also be starting at the shelter on November 1, 2018.
Jen and Tracey will help manage the front desk and the back kennel. Additionally, Jen
will be the Animal Shelter’s in-house veterinarian while Tracy will serve as the shelter’s
trainer. Very exciting news!!!
