Shirley shared the three options that City Asset evaluated, they included Burlingame, Yellow Brick
expansion and Yellow Brick basement. The Kids First Advisory Board discussed the information that
was shared and agreed that the Yellow Brick basement wasn’t an option. In addition, the Kids First
Advisory Board agreed that they would like to see a better break down of the square footage cost
estimate. It was noted that the shared information was only a draft and that Shirley would work with
N/V/5 to get additional information and clarity.
Shirley shared her rough draft of the presentation and asked for feedback. Those feedback items included
* The session would be about informing the Aspen City Council and asking their permission to continue
the research process.
* Do we take all three options presented by Asset?
* More information about workers and who is using the care.
* Should we complete an employment and employee survey of some of the bigger companies in Aspen
and find out their employee needs for care – using a consultant?
* Solid information about why we are supporting new and why renovation isn’t a solution.
* Sharing parent perspective.
* Should we list some of the preferences that we see for people and maybe some road blocks like –
driving into town vs driving only to Burlingame, Parking, proximity to Kids First
During the meeting, Shirley edited the presentation around agreed to add more content before the next
meeting. Shirley will also put together a packet of information with background information and
additional information for City Council members. The group was reminded that this is only a
preliminary meeting, with more to follow.
• Updates:
We have a signed agreement with The Early Learning Center to extend their capacity period for room 3,
infants, for up to 120 days.
We have seen great success with Adley’s coaching at Little Red and she has completed 22 hours with
two staff members. This meets the requirement for coaching that the Kids First asked of the program.
Shirley will follow up with additional information.
Shirley traveled to Chicago for and week and she is reliable in PAS, working on certification.
Shirley went to the Zero to Three conference in Denver. She shared a trailer of the Zero to Three video
and would like to move forward. The Kids First Advisory Board agreed that this was something that the
Kids First Board and staff can get behind and find out more about making this something that Aspen
could support.
