Kids First Advisory Board Meeting Minutes Friday, March 6, 2020 – 11:30 – 1:30 In attendance: Lisa Flynn, Rebecca Pascal, Stefan Reveal, Sue Way, Matt Zubrod, Genna Moe, Beth Cashdan, Shirley Ritter, and Cecelia Martin. • Approved minutes from January 10, 2020, Rebecca moved to approve, Beth seconded, MPU • Department exemplary goals: Shirley reviewed the exemplary planning process and the matrix used to determine the department goals. Kids First staff will work on these 4 goals this year, they will be part of our official city department goals in 2021. Kids First Advisory Board members were asked for feedback and to think about they might like to participate in these goals. Think of ways we can make our goals and values more visible (website, FB, wall space). • Financial aid review for 2020: Cecelia explained the changes and additions to the 2020 financial aid application.  Staff recommended the addition a profit/loss statement for those self-employed, the addition of IRS Form 4506-T request for transcript form and taking out the assets and liabilities page. Beth moved to approve, Rebecca seconded, MPU • 2020 public engagement and expansion: o Aspen City Council has 5 tier-one goals including childcare sustainability: Childcare Sustainability: Engage with the business community and local stakeholders on ways to finance and expand childcare availability and create workforce development opportunities. a. Education: Increase the awareness regarding the value, benefits, and success of Kids First and early childhood education programs. b. Resources: leverage the collective interests of the Roaring Fork Valley to identify and advance opportunities to increase capacity, with emphasis on the need for quality infant and toddler spaces. c. Workforce: Encourage workforce development and program expansion through creative and immediate actions that develop a qualified workforce and talent pipeline for early childhood educators. o There is a council work session April 7 to review the community engagement plan, and talk about the prospective partnership with CMC. Shirley and Ron have continued to meet with CMC leadership about short-term and long-term collaboration that connect directly to city council goals. o Because we hosted a listening session on SB19-63 last fall, the state has asked Kids First to host a second community listening session, called PN3, which stands for Prenatal to 3 years, so focused young children and their families. The topics from the state are: ● Early Care and development ● Health care access and affordability, including mental and behavioral health ● Family economic security, including food assistance, housing subsidies, and working-family tax credits ● Food access and nutrition ● Social connections and relationships o Kids First (with local partners in these content areas) will host this community lunch on March 31 at the Pitkin County Library. More details to come • Staff and Board member updates: o The Kids First Advisory Board will review childcare program quality improvement grants at April’s board meeting. o Little Red Schoolhouse has a Colorado Shines rating coming up in April.
