ARC Advisory Committee Meeting

November 5, 2019
2:30pm to 4:30pm
I. Call to order
a. Board Members: Bob Bowden, Karen Dillon, Sue Smedsted, Steve
Buettow, Sam Louras
b. Staff: Susan Arenella, Cory VanderVeen, Dominic Lanese, Erin
Hutchings
c. Committee member comments: Steve: Does the project in Crown
Mountain affect the SFA study? Are we looking valley wide?
d. Public Comments: None
e. Staff Comments: Erin: Reply on Crown Mountain park. They are a
long way from getting something built. They are collaborating with the
Crawford’s new facility has drawn some attention both positive and
negative.
II. Approval of Past Minutes: Bob Bowden moved to approve, Sam Second, All
were in favor.
III. Discussion Items:
a. ARC Projects for 2019:
Update on the 2019 projects as we near end of the year. Many of those
projects are nearing completion. The aquatics locker rooms are getting
final touches. The NHL room will move forward into 2020. Water
Feature Project will be carried forward.
b. Recap of October events/ programs
The hockey tournaments and swim meet went well this year in
conjunction with the school events. The flow did seem better. Parking
lots were full but efforts for alternative parking were presented early and
helped support events
c. SFA
SFA comes to town next week. Please attend Advisory Board Meeting
and any section meeting you would like to attend.
d. Awards from The Aspen Times
Aspen Recreation Center Best Gym second year in a row.
Softball Co ed Second Place for programs.
Men’s league Hockey also received an award.
IV. Updates and Progress Reports:
a. Financial report on revenues and expenses
The Revenue and expenditures are on track for 2019. We still have some
big tickets like Black Friday and Christmas Break coming.
Kudos to Cory for an excellent presentation on the 2020 budget proposals
in front of council.
