Agenda Approval: Addition of Staff Update and Master Planning Process
Meeting Minute Approval: September and November Minutes will be approved in December
meeting.
Discussion items:
Staffing Updates: The Recreation Department has four full-time positions open, and we
continue to recruit in the challenging market. We have added a sign-on bonus program and are
working with the resources at hand. Termed positions, higher pay, and flexible schedules are all
incentives.
General Recreation Updates: Winter basketball registration is open after school, and day
camp is in high demand. Additional staff would help increase the numbers. High School sports,
swimming, and hockey start in mid-November. Adult leagues are back. Curling is on the
horizon. The climbing tower will have some hours as we have hired a few high school students.
Staffing restrictions impend hours, learn to swim, and numbers for childcare programs. Black
Friday pass sale is capped at 400. The pricing supports the purchase of our other memberships.
Additionally, the annual monthly renewal pass will go on sale in December. This product should
support our local population.
Pickleball: The Department has approval for indoor pickleball for the winter season. The
outdoor court design is moving forward and will continue to move through the approval
process.
Project Updates: The locker room remodels the downstairs is nearing construction with new
ceiling panels, lighting, and lockers on order. The permit has been approved and signed. Spray
Features are waiting for installation. Cameras, fitness equipment, and speakers/amp’s have been
ordered in part of the downstairs remodel. A new Zamboni battery is approved and moving
forward.
Master Plan Update: The bidding process is open for a master plan for the Aspen Recreation
Center and Aspen Ice Garden. The bid project meeting held with potential bidders demonstrated
a large turnout. This project will look at our spaces in correlation to the Advisory Committee
work on the outdoor pool project, 2015 business plan recommendations, and most recently, the
Sports Facility Advisory (SFA) study completed in 2019.
