Subject: 20.029.110 Glickman Residence – 213 West Bleeker St., Aspen, Colorado – Window Header
Support Change.
To whom it may concern:
Regarding the subject project and 2844 window installed in the dining room wall (see attachment A) as
designed by Fox Engineering, Ltd (Fox)., see attachment B. The Fox design required 1-2x6 king stud and
2-2x6 trimmers (jack studs) on each end. Due to framing constraints, the contractor is unable to install
the Fox designed support for the header.
TH Engineering provided an analysis based on the loads, as indicated in the Fox design criteria. As
shown, the loads are similar to the TH Engineering plans for the same residence as submitted on 8-24-
2020. Base on our analysis, the configuration of 1-2x6 king stud and 1-2x6 trimmer at each end provides
adequate support for horizontal and vertical loads with a resulting utilization of 14%. The deflection for
this design is 1/16 of an inch. The king stud and trimmer should be nailed together using 16d nails, face
nail at 12” on center, per the IBC nailing schedule.
Should you have any questions or require additional information, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Sincerely,
TH Engineering, LLC.

RE: New Exterior Wall Header
213 W. Bleeker St.
Aspen, CO 81611
Per your request I have reviewed the framing requirements for a new window in an exterior wall at the
above referenced address. A visual inspection
August 18th, 2020 at approximately 2:00 pm. Please see the following for the required new header
specifications for the new window installation.
ENGINEERING DESIGN CRITERIA:
2015 IRC with City of Aspen Amendments
The proposed window is to be approx tall and is to be installed in an existing
-Fir #2 header or better, with
(2) jack studs and (1) king stud on each end. Laminate
studs have solid, continuous bearing to the existing
base plate and foundation. These studs are not to be notched or drilled through.
The existing exterior plywood sheathing is to be cut as needed to form the new window opening.
If the above specifications are followed, the new header will be adequate for the applied loads.
If you have any further questions, feel free to contact me.
With Respect,
