Structural Engineering Consulting www.foxstructural.com – (720)-666-8888 TO: Adam Glickman RE: New Exterior Wall Header 213 W. Bleeker St. Aspen, CO 81611 Per your request I have reviewed the framing requirements for a new window in an exterior wall at the above referenced address. A visual inspection of the proposed window’s location was conducted on August 18th, 2020 at approximately 2:00 pm. Please see the following for the required new header specifications for the new window installation. ENGINEERING DESIGN CRITERIA: 2015 IRC with City of Aspen Amendments Ground Snow Load – 100 psf Roof Dead Load – 15 psf Roof Live Load – 20 psf Floor Live Load – 40 psf Walls – 10 psf Ceiling – 12 psf Wind Load – 89 mph, Exposure Category B The proposed window is to be approximately 30” wide and 53” tall and is to be installed in an existing framed 2”x6” exterior wall. I recommend installing a (3) 2”x8” Douglas-Fir #2 header or better, with (2) jack studs and (1) king stud on each end. Laminate the header ply’s with ½” OSB as necessary to establish a 5-1/2” wide header. Verify that the jack studs have solid, continuous bearing to the existing base plate and foundation. These studs are not to be notched or drilled through. The existing exterior plywood sheathing is to be cut as needed to form the new window opening. If the above specifications are followed, the new header will be adequate for the applied loads. If you have any further questions, feel free to contact me. With Respect, Dillon Fox, P.E.
