Kids First Advisory Board Meeting Minutes
Friday, December 3, 2021 – 11:30 AM
Attendees: Stefan Reveal, Rebecca Paschal, Chad Schmit, Jessica Garrow, Sue Way, Shirley Ritter, and Nancy
Nichols
Approved Minutes from November 5th, 2021 meeting: Sue moved, Chad seconded, MPU
DESIRED OUTCOMES:
• Understand next steps to achieve council critical goal
Shirley attached the working log for both CMC and Burlingame for Kids First Board Members to view.
She will continue to provide this updated information to board members.
CMC has a fence and a storage building!
• Agree on operator for CMC infant room
Christina Holloway submitted a proposal for the operation of the CMC Infant room. The Kids First
Advisory Board was very excited to receive the proposal. The Kids First Advisory Board felt confident
in Christina’s ability to run a quality programs and encourage Shirley to talk to Christina about a few
adjustments to the proposal to ensure that both Christina and Kids First had the same expectations.
Once the revised proposal and lease terms have been shared between Kids First and Christina, the Kids
First Advisory Board will be given the information and asked to approve the proposal and lease.
• Agree on programming/funding to support early childhood workforce
Shirley shared information about program supports for teachers in Pitkin County licensed childcare
programs. The Kids First Advisory Board agree that this program would be an opportunity to support
teachers and asked Shirley and the Kids First staff to move forward with the design and share this with
the Kids First Advisory Board at the next meeting.
• Yellow Brick lease terms and compliance discussion
Shirley shared with the Kids First Advisory Board the lack of response to her letter regarding lease
compliance with capacity numbers. The Kids First Advisory Board agreed and directed Shirley to ask
for the required “work plan” to bring these programs into compliance. If was further agreed that the
intent of the lease was to hold the Yellow Brick building tenants to the terms of agreement.
A few questions and comments from the Kids First Advisory Board included – Are they trying to
comply? Are there possible solutions? Can we remind them of the importance for capacity? Do they
understand the efforts to increase capacity across the board and can they comply and show the effort to
serve additional families in the community? Shirley will follow up with a discussion with both Aspen
Mountain Tots and The Early Learning Center.
