720 WEST HOPKINS, UNIT C
10/6/17
The City of Aspen is requiring Skandia Townhouses to upgrade and replace the water meter for the
building.
The existing meter, likely installed in the 1960 or 1970’s, is currently located in a virtually inaccessible
location, but up against the outside wall on ground level in one of the five units. The meter technician
from the City met with us and collectively it was agreed that it would make sense to create an access
door in the outside wall. This would allow the easy entry to the space from the outside of the building to
the area where the old meter and main shut off valve for the building are located, and allow a plumber
to exchange the old meter for a new one. This would additionally allow future admission to the space
should the need arise, without needing to disturb the homeowner.
Currently, the City of Aspen has placed Skandia Townhouses on a flat rate fee until this repair is made; a
fee which is substantially more money than we were paying in the past (over five times the amount).
The water department will consider a retroactive credit if we can finish this exchange immediately. We
are therefore highly motivated to finish this project as quickly as possible. We graciously request that
Community Development consider expediting approval of our access door so that we may allow the
plumber entry to replace the water meter for the city.
Thank you!
