PUBLIC COMMENT: None. Mayor Torre asked City Manager, Sara Ott, if they will continue to take public comment via Webex now that we are coming into post pandemic. Ms. Ott said it’s council’s pleasure. COUNCIL COMMENTS: Councilor Doyle said the west megadrought is the worst in 12 hundred years according to the New York Times. He spoke about Lake Mead and Powell and their water supplies. Councilor Richards said she was in Grand Junction last week for Club 20 and showed graphs of the lakes and their water levels. On the news, they are talking about the percent of normal. The average snowpack from 25 years ago is not the same average as now. She asked about the March 28th meeting, and if they could start at 3:00 instead of 4:00 because she is supposed to fly out. Councilor Hauenstein said he wished Martha Madsen a happy birthday. He is also celebrating the mask mandate being lifted. The hospital is in the green so still be careful out there. We’re projected for a big snow cycle and its very slick underneath. Councilor Mesirow said it’s a lucky day – 2/22/22. He is offering gratitude around the room. The mask mandate is gone and it’s good to see everyone’s faces. Thank you to the people making these decisions. These aren’t easy decisions. A bunch of city staff are in the room tonight and are doing great work. There is a bunch of snow coming and it feels good to get outside. Mayor Torre said Retrofilms with the Aspen Historical Society is tonight at 5:30 p.m. Bill Gerber is speaking at 6:00 pm at the ABC for the Colorado Mountain Series. At 10:00 p.m. Lucas Nelson is playing at Belly Up tonight. At 10:00 a.m. there is a pre-k art class at the Red Brick tomorrow morning. March 1st is the Wheeler Metropolitan Cinderella with $5.00 tickets for kids. On March 4&5th Dance Aspen is back. Our community did recently lose Jack Brendlinger, an Aspen Hall of Fame member. His family is still here in the valley. Most of us knew him as the guy from the Tower Restaurant. AGENDA AMENDMENTS: City Attorney, James R. True, added to the executive session item regarding the Aspen Board of Realtors case. CITY MANAGER COMMENTS: Ms. Ott said she attended two airport advisory board meetings since the beginning of the year. it’s mostly background information, but the group will be setting priorities for recommendations for the visioning process. The group will prioritize for the staff at the airport and the BOCC for next steps. Reach out with any questions. Councilor Richards said when she was on the board of commissioners, capacity and growth issues came up. How are they measuring this demand now regarding STR’s. Page 1 /5
