A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ASPEN, COLORADO
IN SUPPORT OF CITY OF ASPEN BALLOT ISSUE 2B, EXTENSION OF EXISTING
0.5% SALES TAX FOR PARKS AND OPEN SPACE, A MEASURE ON THE
NOVEMBER 2022 STATE BALLOT
WHEREAS, the Renewal of the City of Aspen Open Space and Trails 1/2 cent sales tax, in
perpetuity, will be on the November 2022 ballot as Ballot Issue 213; and
WHEREAS, for the past 25 years the 1/2 cent sales tax has allowed the City of Aspen to acquire,
improve, and maintain its Open Space & Trails System, Parks, and Recreational Facilities; and
WHEREAS a Yes vote on City of Aspen Ballot Issue 2B will protect and maintain our open
space parks such as Sky Mountain, John Denver Sanctuary, and Cozy Point Ranch; and
WHEREAS a Yes vote on City of Aspen Ballot Issue 2B will contribute to the protection of our
wild lands, undeveloped open space, wildlife, wildlife habitat, and rivers and streams; and
WHEREAS a Yes vote on City of Aspen Ballot Issue 213 will fund the construction and
maintenance of sports fields, Nordic skiing trails, hiking and biking trails, and other recreational
amenities; and
WHEREAS a Yes vote on City of Aspen Ballot Issue 2B will expand and enhance our existing
facilities while consolidating and optimizing their use; and
WHEREAS a Yes vote on City of Aspen Ballot Issue 2B will maintain and/or refurbish parks
and other recreational facilities; and
WHEREAS a Yes vote on City of Aspen Ballot Issue 2B will provide trails for bicycles, e-bikes
and walkers and will be part of the solution to traffic congestion; and
WHEREAS a Yes vote on City of Aspen Ballot Issue 2B will allow the City of Aspen to adapt to
changing recreational needs, priorities, and trends; and
WHEREAS a Yes vote on City of Aspen Ballot Issue 2B will secure our open space and
recreational choices into the future; and
WHEREAS a Yes vote on City of Aspen Ballot Issue 2B will protect the places our children
enjoy, treasure, and recreate into the future.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City of Aspen City Council officially declares
its support for City of Aspen Ballot Issue 2B for the reasons set forth in this Resolution and urges
a YES vote on the Ballot Issue at the November 8, 2022, election.
INTRODUCED, READ, AND ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of Aspen on the
25 th day of October 2022.
