Dear Council:
This summer, the Food & Wine Magazine Classic at Aspen will celebrate its 20th Anniversary. The
Classic is scheduled for June 14 -16, 2002 and we are looking forward to another fantastic year.
In order to create a successful event, the Classic requires specific signage to direct people to the correct
C H A M B E R venues in a timely fashion. After attending our Food & Wine permits meeting with the Special Events
R E S O R T Committee on April 15, we understand that new signage policies on public properties were adopted on
^ s s o c ~ A T ~ o N Dec. 17, 2001. We are asking for special consideration under policy III, "Signs on Public Rights of
Way." (Please note the Special Events committee did approve the Food & Wine event itself at that
time.)
425 Rio Grande Place
As part of the Food & Wine Magazine Classic at Aspen, we must hang approximately thirty signs
^~pc~ Co~o~do s16: throughout the commercial core identifying specific seminar sites (i.e The Gant). The content of the
T 970 925 i940 Signs is purely directional information, listing the name of a seminar location, and some include arrows
pointing to the corresponding direction· The signs do not advertise "The Food & Wine Magazine
F 970 920 1173 Classic at Aspen" nor do they include any sponsor logos.

All signs are constructed of a lightweight, white coroplast material. The sizes of the signs range from
approximately one foot long by one foot high, to two feet long by four feet high and do not exceed the
maximum sign size limitation of ten square feet as listed in the policy under Section III, B.
Size/Number/Material. We do, however, have one extremely important sign, which is normally placed
outside the entrance to Wagner Park (at the start of the alley near Pacifica), that identifies all seminar
locations. This sign is three feet wide by four feet high (twelve square feet).
The duration in which the signs shall be hung is approximately seven days. In preparation for the event,
we plan to hang the signs beginning Monday, June 10. Ail signs will be in place and ready to go for the
event itself, June 14 - I6. Signs will be removed immediately following the Classic and should be
completely down by the end of the day on Monday, June 17. This seven-day period does not exceed the
"fourteen days prior to the event and within the three days of the termination of the event" as identified
in Section III, F. Duration.
The signs we are requesting special consideration for are the same signs we have used for the past eight
years. The signs have already been made and are re-used year after year. Please note that should we be
required to produce new signage, it would be very cost prohibitive and very challenging from a
production standpoint. (May 13 - June 7 would be an extremely difficult mm-around time to produce all
new signage.)
We appreciate your consideration in this matter. Identification all of our event vexes ~s crucial the
success of this event· We will be available to discuss this matter further at the ~ity Council meeting
scheduled for Monday, May 13. ·/~ : ·
