1. Structural design is the priority for not only finalizing design for Engineering,
but for finalizing construction and insulation details upon completion of
exploration demo and sub-contractor visits for coordination and finalization.
We hereby acknowledge that stamped Structural Drawings shall be
submitted, reviewed and approved prior to any inspections for the project.
2. Please see attached drawing of the proposed flashing detail at"ledger"
connection of proposed exterior deck. (Which in this case is a cantilevered
Engineered structure in accordance with above comment 1.) Proposed deck
sub-ply(1/4"per ft slope to edge) is to be dried in by EDPM liner membrane
system (or sim) of which will be securely fastened and run up the sidewall
for an 18 inch minimum as the primary flash, then bitumen taped to exterior
sheathing wrap/zip panel with 3"min laps. An"L"metal (paint matched)
flashing will be added and bitumen taped at deck/wall over membrane for
added protection and asthetics.
3. Please see attached the manufacturers install instructions and specification
from/by Weathershield Premium Series windows and one for the specified
door,in regards to window/door flashing to satisfy IRC 703.4. Also,
Weathershield provides a"factory built in"head flashing which provides the
ultimate protection for the unit.Additional insulation methods to be added
(where applicable) as noted in the Air Sealing Details of this report.
4. The class A roof system, which is proposed, will be achieved by the
acquisition and use of class B fire retardant shakes installed over a Mineral
surfaced cap sheet applied to the 5/8 inch ply roof deck(pitched at approx.
7/12),further as specified on the attached ESR 1410, ICC-ES Evaluation
Report for FSR Treatment, Inc.specifically described at 4.1 and 4.2 of the
report
5. Air Sealing Details will be completed in accordance with the provided details
on The City of Aspen sample air sealing detail sheets, specifically in regards
to areas noted on the attached four (4)Air Sealing Detail sheets.
(Drywall and Framing 1 thru 8, Exterior Sheathing 1 thru 4, Housewrap/1
inch insulated zip-panel system lthru 4 and Spray Foam sheet 1 thru 3).
Please note that after discussion with contractors;that a spray foam install
will be done on proposed addition. (Including the elimination of the vented
roof to conform with Air Sealing Details using Spray Foam per details as
noted on attached sample air sealing detail sheets).

Weather Shield INTRODUCTION
Premium Series® INSTALLATION DETAILS
Shown are typical construction details for single units. These are solely used for the purpose of
visualizing a window/door in a wall detail.
Proper Installation System Objectives:
• Minimize water and air infiltration
• Allow for expansion and contraction around unit
• Attach unit securely to wall
**The design and structural load requirements of the rough opening are to be determined and met by the
architect and/or engineer. Window/Door frame systems are not designed to support additional elements
or components of the building wall system.**
General Notes
• Details reflect various wall systems. Other Weather Shield® products in the same wall construction
will reflect similarly.
• Details do not reflect complete installation procedures.
• Refer to the Installation Guides under the Resources tab on www.weathershield.com for step by
step procedures to install properly.
• Weather Shield®sales representatives can assist with other variable applications.
Installation Methods
Integrated Nailing Fins, Installation Clips and Frame Screws are the most common methods for installing
Weather Shield Premium Series®Windows and Doors.
• Integrated Nailing Fins: applicable in most situations where the window/door can be installed from
the exterior of the house to the sheathing. Primarily used on wood, vinyl, stucco (new
construction) and brick veneer (new construction) exteriors.
• Installation Clips: applicable in situations where the window/door needs to be installed and
fastened in the interior. Primarily used on reconstruction.
• Frame Screws: applicable in both installing the window/door from the interior or exterior. Mostly
used when the window/door needs to be fastened to a wood buck, usually with concrete or
masonry wall systems.
Important Installation Procedures
• Unit must be shimmed in the opening, true, plum, level and square. Shim windows a minimum of
1/4" above sill plate to provide proper clearance.
• Shims are required to keep frames straight.
• When insulating around the unit, use batt insulation or window and door installation foam. Do not
use high compressive foam.
IMPORTANT! Details are shown with minimal spacing between items for clarity of illustration. Actual
assembly details may vary.
