Bill Dinsmoor, and Terry Butler.
Staff present:
Nicole Henning, City Clerk
Sandra Doebler, Special Events
Nancy Lesley, Special Events Director
Other attendees: Alycin Bektesh of ACRA
Public Comment:
None.
Commissioner Comments:
Ms. Henning introduced Alycin Bektesh, our new ACRA liaison.
Mr. Ball asked about minutes. Ms. Henning said there will be two sets next time.
4th of July Parade Discussion:
Ms. Doebler said there are a couple of groups that don’t do registration forms such as the fireman and
kids bike group, and mountain rescue. The valley vets are also expected, so there are a few applications
missing.
She said there is one grand marshal nomination, and overall, not a whole lot of applicants. We should
see what comes in over the next couple of weeks and we should let them in.
There are a couple of individuals and that’s great. Pitkin county Dems applied but the Republicans
haven’t yet, so she is sure that’s coming.
There is one applicant who is flagged because they also sent an offensive email. Ms. Tanaka said the sign
lady is fabulous, but her friend is the one who sent the offensive email.
Ms. Doebler said she’s not worried about it yet.
Mr. Cunniffe said he will urge Jazz Aspen to apply because we need more music.
Ms. Doebler said we should put the motor sports at the front or at the end.
She said the museum wants to have a brass band and a kids derby car decorating and race.
Ms. Lesley entered the meeting.
Mr. Cunniffe asked about the hotels going valet. In previous years, all the GMs were friends and
coordinated.
Ms. Doebler said she hasn’t heard from the Harley’s, but she has a feeling they will just show up.

REGULAR MEETING COMMERCIAL CORE & LODGING COMMISSION JUNE 1, 2022
She said we should let in all applicants at this point, and she is not sure about #4 yet and if we can say
no. Ms. Henning advised her to speak with the city attorney on that one for guidance.
Mr. Cunniffe asked for a marching band and Ms. Lesley said they’ve been looking for one since January.
There isn’t one close enough and it would be one or two hotel nights and it’s just too expensive for a
high school band.
Ms. Doebler said they are looking for something spectacular to kick off the parade, however.
She said they have received one applicant for Grand Marshal. Brent Gardner-Smith of Aspen Public
Radio, who would be great. Mr. Cunniffe agreed and said he thinks he’s a great nominee.
Ms. Tanaka said she is texting the concierge at the Jerome so they can use their balcony for judging. Mr.
Cunniffe said he would also help reach out to them.
Ms. Doebler said she will email Ms. Henning with additional applications as they come in and she will
disperse to the commission.
The new theme is Aspen 4 All.
Mr. Cunniffe motioned to adjourn at 9:09 a.m.; Mr. Ball seconded.
