Aspen Recreation Advisory Committee Meeting Minutes:
January 3, 2023

Discussion items:
2022 Wins:
The winter pass sale went well. The department opened the facilities, is now back to regular
hours, and has moved away from reservations. The department met the 2022 revenue budget.
Events and programs are coming back online and have grown since the beginning of the year.
The department has filled all full-time staff positions.
Events Facilities, Projects, and Program Updates:
New Year's Eve Public Skate was held at the Aspen Ice Garden and attended primarily by
tourists. The Ice Garden will continue to host some Saturday Public Skate Sessions.
Swim lessons, including adult swim lessons, will return in January. The elementary school is
back in the pool after a two-year gap. The high School lifeguard program will continue this
spring semester. The annual Gay Ski Week Closing party will be held on January 21, 2023.
Basketball and fitness classes are in full swing. The department is offering a jog into January
program, which incentivizes activities, and participants get prizes as they plan to reach the 500-
mile marker. High School Hockey could not have a JV team in addition to varsity. Aspen Junior
Hockey is looking into reintroducing the midget program. The Request for Proposal for the
Recreation Business plan is out, and we hope to have a vendor selected by March.
Financial:
End of year cost recovery will be clear in February when the final expenditures have been
processed.
