Aspen Recreation Advisory Committee Meeting Minutes:
March 7, 2023

Meeting Minute Approval: Motion Ryan, Second Steve, all were in favor.
Discussion items:
Quarterly Meeting Schedule: The committee will move to an in-person quarterly option from 12
pm-2 pm. Lunch will be provided. Staff will provide a monthly newsletter. In the event of a
special meeting, we will offer a two-week public notice.
Compass Plan: The Recreation Department compass plan is an outcome-based program. The
Department will focus on three overarching goals of fiscal responsibility, Safety and Community
Outreach.
Business Plan: Pro’s consulting has been selected for the Recreation Business Plan.
Program, Project, and Facility Updates:
The Aspen Skating Club show went well. Adult Hockey League play-off and curling are wrapping
up from a busy season. Disable Veterans Winter Sports will be held at the end of March. Thor is also
collaborating with Challenge Aspen to get the kids involved with curling. The aquatics team
programs are ramping up. Lessons, kayaking, and other programming are getting added to the
schedule. Spring Break Camp is coming up. the Department is collaborating with the Pitkin County
Senior Center on new programs.
Financial:
The Department is up 30% year over year in budget and trending slightly above forecast.
