HomeMy WebLinkAboutresolution.council.187-23RESOLUTION NO. 101 (Series of 2023) A RESOLUTION ADOPTING � POLICY OF THE CITY OF ASPEN REGARDING THE FLYING OF FLAGS OVER QR OUTSIDE OF ANY CITY BUILDING. WHEREAS, the City of Aspen proudly flies the flags of the United States, the State of Colorado, and the City of Aspen over or outside of City Buildings; and WHEREAS, flying of other flags, whether foreign or domestic, public or private, may be deemed a political statement, whether intended or not; and, WHEREAS, the City Council wishes to set a policy that the City of Aspen will not fly any flag over or outside of City Buildings other than the flags of the United States, the State of Colorado and the City of Aspen; and, WHEREAS, the City of Aspen does recognize that this is an active community and that political and humanitarian causes are pursued by its citizenry. Consequently, the City Council encourages such participation and acknowledges that its programs allow groups of all kinds to reserve areas such as Paepke Park and during such time, at such locations, flags of any nature, that are compliant with state, federal and local laws, may be flown during the time of any such activity on such parks. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ASPEN, COLORADO, THAT: The City of Aspen proudly flies the flags of the United States, the State of Colorado, and the City of Aspen over or outside of City Buildings and as a policy of the City will not fly any other flag over or outside of City Buildings, whether foreign or domestic, public or private. 1 INTRODUCED, READ AND ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of Aspen on the 12day of December 2023.
