HomeMy WebLinkAboutminutes.gab.080823 GOLF ADVISORY COMMITTEE AUGUST 8,3023 MINUTES (Helene Slansky)  Those attending were Jeff Sivess, Ted Greene, Charlie Weaver, Jim Schanzenbaker, Brandon Blocker, Linda Maslow, Annie Gabriel, Helene Slansky, Andrew Firman, Dominic Lanese and Jim Pratt. Jared Day attended on zoom.  The Agenda was adopted and Minutes were approved. There were no public comments.  Charlie reported that the Junior Golf event was toned down and successful. The same money was raised as last year but with fewer expenses.  Dominic reported that the irrigation system was being repaired. Fertilizer is applied to the greens every two weeks. Fall prep Is starting.  Schanzy mentioned that the gravel On the cart paths is helpful.  Andrew reported that we were 4 th in the Interclub standings.  The Mayors Cup attracted 19 teams and raised good money.  The High School event on August 14 drew 100 players for the shotgun.  The Conviser Cup will have tee times available from 8:00-10:30 each of two days. August 19-20.  Revenue is on the mark and up $100,000 from 2022. Approximately $2.2 million.  Staff has worked hard. Hard to avoid burn out with so much play. Eric Strickland has retired. The outside staff has done a good job of being courteous and helpful.  Linda has 101 paid members in the Women’s Association. 70 have paid into the purse. The Skorr Cup will be September 9th. Mary Woulfe has agreed to be captain of the Interclub next year. Thanks Mary.  Ted said the Men’s Association has over 200 members. 65-70 men play each week. They’ve created a monster! Their Calcutta was great out Ryder Cup team came in second after Ironbridge and before RVR.  Jim’s Golf Manager report. A survey is out now until the end of the season. It’s on the website. The restaurant lease is being negotiated as is the instruction lease. There is a city process to be followed and then submitted to the legal department. There is also an effort to make the Superintendent job year-round. This will be reviewed by the City Manager and then to the Council in October. Our course is the only public course without a year-round superintendent!  Regarding holes 4 and 17: Phelps will visit in the fall. City crew will do the work when available. Rules have changed since Jeff Woods did the original so there needs to be a new approach.  The front desk is still encountering 5-10 no shows every day.  $250,000 still set aside for us. Cart paths need it.  Pass Prices are set for next year. There may have to be fewer passes sold to handle the number of players. Silver passes sell best. Cancellation rules for Platinum May change.  September events include Stirling Cup, Elks Club and Ladies Club Championship.  Signs are needed for blind tee shots and a trash can is needed at 12 tee for restaurant trash.  The next meeting is Tuesday September 12 at 10:00 a.m.  Meeting was adjourned.
