HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes.ARC.20240604.Regular Aspen Recreation Advisory Committee Meeting Minutes: June 2nd 2024 Call to order: 12:00 pm by Erin In Attendance: Ryan Doremus Committee Member Chair Karen Dillon Committee Member Vice-Chair Steve Buettow Committee Member Candace Cross Committee Member Tony Greene, Committee Member Erin Hutchings, Recreation Operations Manager and Committee liaison Desiree Whitehead Recreation Manger Jay Slater Recreation Operations Manager Absent: Harlan Pratt Committee Member Michaela Idhammar, Committee Member Public Comments: None Committee Comments: None Staff Comments: None Agenda Approval: Approved Meeting Minute Approval: Karen Motioned, Tony 2nd, and All were in Favor Discussion items: Committee Discussion: Karen Dillon has agreed to step in as the Vice Chair. Ryan motioned, Candace 2nd, and all were in favor. City staff decided to provide logistics and facilitation support. Karen will help keep the meeting running and continue the committee initiatives. Program, Project, and Facility Updates: The business plan is slated to go in a council work session on July 22nd The Aspen Ice Garden projects will be suspended until next April. In the meantime, the team is continuing to procure materials and prepare for the project. The ARC is getting some necessary boiler work done during the closure. In addition, the waterslide will be replacing two small sections. It's important to note that the repair is critical for the future, and the slide is safe to ride, ensuring our members' safety. Project Graduation went very well; the kids had a good time and were safe all night. Aquatics programming is going very well for the summer and will be in full swing by June 17th. The Lewis ice arena is all repaired and operational. The Lewis has a hectic summer schedule full of hockey camps and new programming like Cosmic Skate. The dry floor of the Aspen Ice Garden will be in late July. Pickleball has been popular over the season; roller skating on Friday is back, and new this year is street hockey for youth. The team is continuing to engage the space for a dry floor. Summer camp is in operation, and softball and baseball are underway. The department is doing a new summer series of fitness events combined with passive recreation. Park Run is going well meeting up each Saturday morning. Financial: The current cost recovery rate is 49.19%. Action Items: None Next Regular Meeting: October 1st 12:00-2:00 PM
