Commissioner Comments:
Ms. Butler said that at the Saturday market, there has been enormous patronage, and all vendors are
doing so well. Mr. Cunniffe said it’s been perfect weather each time.
Ms. Henning gave Kathy Strickland’s recap of the market mid-summer and told them about Mia Valley’s
concern. They are ok with the vintage posters.
Ms. Tanaka said she has gotten good feedback on the market and parents have said they are happy to
see the AYC kids there. Mr. Cunniffe agreed and said it’s been good along with the Science Center.
Mr. Ball said for the longest time we’ve tried to find ways to improve the experience of the market, and
then we try to incorporate Kathy’s information to make it better, etc. One component would be good to
get feedback on. He suggested getting a survey to the vendors on what they think would better.
Mr. Cunniffe said they had a complaint on the lack of bathrooms.
Mr. Ball said they could have the survey be really simple and made up of three questions.
Ms. Henning said the city could send a survey monkey and have the feedback come back to us.
Ms. Oliver gave an update on the Castle Bridge survey. Retailers were the biggest respondents. Most
businesses anticipate significant impact on revenue. Overall, they received 42 responses, and it was sent
to 700 businesses.
Mr. Cunniffe said there is so much collective frustration, people stop listening.
Ms. Kiss-Baldwin said there are so many surveys going around in town right now too.
Ms. Oliver said they are taking public comment at the next week’s work session.
Ms. Bektesh said the city booth will have people at the Saturday Market this weekend who will be
collecting comment also.
Mr. Cunniffe mentioned the walking tour with engineering and transportation.

Ms. Oliver gave more information regarding the tour. The email that Ms. Henning forwarded to the
group asked that they RSVP by tomorrow.
Block Captain Project:
Mr. Cunniffe said some of them aren’t prone to filling out a spreadsheet. He doesn’t have time. He
mentioned Ms. Davis’ previous upset about that, but he did speak with his businesses.
Ms. Tanaka said, for her, she can speak to what she was hearing. They just need to stay in
communication with their blocks.
Mr. Cunniffe agreed that communication is the most important as opposed to writing it down.
Ms. Tanaka said a lot of people in her store have been complaining about the stores in town being in big
malls in Dallas. They are saying that Aspen has lost its charm.
Mr. Cunniffe brought up the retail chain store rule that other towns have. He said that has been the
death nail.
Ms. Tanaka said that e-bikes have been another big topic. Mr. Ball said there are 15 cases a day in the ER
related to bike injuries.
Ms. Oliver said they will be talking about e-bikes at the walking tour.
Mr. Cunniffe said he has seen scary stuff. He spoke about kids he saw that were racing through stop
signs and not stopping and others shared their stories.
Mr. Ball motioned to adjourn; Ms. Wang seconded. All in favor, motion carried.
