RE: 1112 Waters roof framing
We have been engaged to do the structural engineering on a remodel to the existing
residence located at 1112 Waters Ave.in Aspen Colorado. The existing residence was
built sometime in the 60's or 70's and does not meet today's building code requirements.
The existing roof is framed with 4x purlins spaced at 48" o.c. which do not work for the
code required snowload.With the shallow roof pitch of the existing roof we feel this
poses a serious life safety concern.It is our recommendation that the existing roof must
be augmented to conform to current design criteria. This will require a 11 7/8" framing
system above the existing purlins.The existing roof buildup over the purlins may be
removed to minimize the overall thickness of the proposed roof system.This is
mandatory to get the roof framing to work for the snowload.
