Hi Kara,
I am continuing to process the tree removal permit application for 430 W Hallam Street. I have attached a copy of the
spreadsheet I drew up after assessing the site and reviewing your set plans. You will see some differences in the
assessed mitigation for the removals I am willing to permit, totaling $80,671.38. There are other requirements and
adjustments listed below which will need to be addressed to continue processing the permit:
Tree #19 was incorrectly identified and is a Lodgepole Pine.
Tree #20, an 11” inch DBH aspen, was missing from the mitigation table and has been added.
Also overlooked was an 11” inch Apple tree in the front South West corner of the property in the ROW which has
been added to the mitigation table as tree #35.
Please resubmit the “Tree Removal and Protection Plan L100” with red ‘X’s on the trees to be removed and colored
polygons (you choose color) for the tree protection zones, and construction management plan.
Because two additional Firs in the back yard and 2 Crabapples in the front yard are being retained there may need
to be some changes to the planting plan for the 2 Spring Snow Crabapples proposed for the backyard and the
Maple for the front yard.
A replacement planting in the ROW of a Cottonwood tree 4” inches in DBH will be required for this project between
trees #15 and #21.
The Lilac stems in the ROW behind tree #14 shall be left undisturbed.
Airspade excavation will be required for the new driveway in the back on the east side next to the large Lodgepole
pine, tree #31.
If I understand the design of the brick privacy wall correctly there are no footers but some excavation for the
concrete ‘posts’. The later will need to be sited outside the driplines of the trees around the perimeter (#31, #29,
#27, #25, #23, #22). Footers will not be allowed due to the conflict with trees being retained. Airspade excavation
will be required. If placement of the posts is in conflict, complete redesign of the privacy wall will be required.
Please expand on the proposed design.
Walkway alignments and patio configurations may need to be reconsidered if they encroach on the driplines of
trees being retained.
I will be out of town through Friday February 23. Dave Radeck may be able to answer questions in the interim.
Kind regards,
Ian Gray
