November 19, 2018 William Luis Poss Architecture & Planning 605 East Main Street, Aspen, CO 81611 Re: Duncan Ski Haus, Dear William, This document is intended to show compliance of the addition & remodel of the residence located at 533 West Hallam, Aspen in Pitkin County, Colorado with the 2015 International Energy Conservation Code (2015 IECC). We propose to use a prescriptive approach per sections 402.1-402.3 and 403.2.1 of the 2015 IECC. I have also included the inspection checklist from the 2015 IECC Rescheck program for your use. Project The project at 533 West Hallam is an addition & remodel of a residence with a floor area of approximately 3,740 sf. The heat load calculations are performed using the Carrier Hourly Analysis Program and provides a more detailed and accurate load than Manual J. A dewpoint calculation is not included in these permit documents, as the roof assembly meets the requirements of section R806.5 of the 2015 IRC. Building Envelope The following table lists the mandatory minimum insulation and fenestration requirements for the project climate zone (7). All new assemblies will meet the following requirements. Fenestration U-factor Skylight U-factor Ceiling R-value Wood frame wall R-value Floor R-value Basement wall R-value Slab R-value Crawl Wall R-value Code Minimums 0.28 (1) 0.55(1) 49 20+5 (6) 38 (2) 15/19 (3) 10 (4) 15/19 (5) Notes: 1) Fenestration SHGC requirements do not apply in climate zone (7) 2) Or insulation sufficient to fill the framing cavity, R-19 minimum 3) R-15 continuous insulation on the interior or exterior or R-19 cavity insulation on the interior of the basement wall. Can be satisfied with R-13 cavity plus R-5 continuous. 4) 4 ft deep and R-15 edge insulation for heated slabs 5) R-15 continuous insulation or R-19 cavity insulation. 6) All alterations that expose a framing cavity will have the cavity filled with insulation per R503.1.1 Sincerely, Bryan Urban, EIT 12/04/2018 OUTDOOR TEMPERATURE -15 °F OUTDOOR TEMPERATURE 88 °F INDOOR TEMPERATURE 72 °F INDOOR TEMPERATURE 75 °F TOTAL HEAT LOSS 89,782 BTU/HR SENSIBLE HEAT GAIN 85,380 BTU/HR LATENT HEAT GAIN 4,938 BTU/HR TOTAL HEAT GAIN 90,318 BTU/HR MANUAL J DESIGN CONDITIONS WINTER DESIGN CONDITIONS SUMMER DESIGN CONDITIONS 12/04/2018 Zone Sizing Summary for Manual J Project Name: 18032 - Duncan Skihaus 11/19/2018 Prepared by: AEC 01:39PM Air System Information Air System Name Manual J Equipment Class UNDEF Air System Type SZCAV Number of zones 1 Floor Area 6095.0 ft² Location Eagle, Colorado Sizing Calculation Information Zone and Space Sizing Method: Zone CFM Sum of space airflow rates Space CFM Individual peak space loads Calculation Months Jan to Dec Sizing Data Calculated Zone Sizing Data Maximum Design Minimum Time Maximum Zone Cooling Air Air of Heating Floor Sensible Flow Flow Peak Load Area Zone Zone Name (MBH)(CFM)(CFM)Load (MBH)(ft²)CFM/ft² Zone 1 79.2 6078 6078 Jul 1600 89.8 6095.0 1.00 Zone Terminal Sizing Data No Zone Terminal Sizing Data required for this system.
