Re: Gorsuch Locker Room
Dear Mr. Don Bateman and the town of Aspen building department,
Four ducted fan coils and baseboard have been specified to serve the Gorsuch locker room heating and cooling. If the
ventilation rates listed in the 2015 IMC Table 403.3.1.1 are applied to the spaces, the code required outside air and
exhaust sum to just over 327 cubic feet per minute(CFM). Dressing (77 square feet) and locker (774 square feet) rooms
require 0.25 CFM per square foot of exhaust. Restrooms require 50 cfm per water closet exhaust. The storage room (18
square feet) requires 0.06 CFM per square foot of exhaust. The reception room (41 square feet) shall require 30 people
per 1000 square feet and 5 CFM per person plus 0.06 CFM per square foot of outside air. Utilizing a balanced pressure
system, the code required outside air and exhaust would utilize a continuous exhaust and intake strategy. Therefore,
the recommended target exhaust and intake shall be 350 CFM.
The mechanical contractor is directed to add a motorized damper and 6” round (5x5 rectangular) or larger from the
outdoors to deliver 88 CFM, or more, into the return of each fan coil. In addition, it is recommended to add a 350cfm
constant speed exhaust fan, that would exhaust 80 CFM from each restroom and changing room, and 190 CFM from the
locker room, ducted to the outdoors.
Any duct penetrations through any fire rated assembly shall require the installation of a fusible linked fire damper.
During any occupied period (and even 7 days a week 24 hours a day, if desired), the fan coil fan(s) and the exhaust fan
shall run continuously, open the normally closed powered open motor operated damper, and introduce and exhaust the
target air (350 CFM) out of the space(s). Normal comfort operation would occur with input from the thermostat(s).

We hope this process and adjustment to the exhaust, heating and cooling shall meet the minimum intent of the code,
but if you have any other questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to give me a call.
Sincerely,
Brent Wilson – Principal Engineer
