The closed loop ground heat exchanger (GHX) parameters were determined from hourly load simulations, and conservative thermal conductivity values for the geology. The simulation software accounts for the heating capacity and efficiency of the specific heat pump models to map annual entering water temperature ranges from the GHX, determine total heat of extraction from the earth, based upon input data from the manufacturer’s published engineering manual combined with the provided loads and thermal conductivity inputs. A single heat pump with a nominal compressor rating of 10 tons, or 120.0 kbtuh each, is intended to provide heated water to the radiant floor and/or fan coils. The AHRI/ISO/ASHRAE 13256-2 rating for heating is 94.2 kbtuh with a COP of 3.1. Please note that the 13256-2 closed loop rating is for water-to-water extended range heat pumps, equivalent to that of the 13256-1 rating for water- to-air extended range heat pumps. A seasonal average heating COP efficiency of 3.8 is projected for the central heat pump plant based upon the hourly load simulations and other variables as determined from the GHX simulation software.
