HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes.GRB.20250102.RegularMeeting Minutes – Steering Committee Meeting Date: January 2, 2025 Time: 10am Location: City Hall Copper Pass Conference Room and Teams Attendees In Person: Natalie Blumentritt (Presenter) Attendees Online (TEAMS): Judy Clausson, Ann Mullins, Tracy Anderson, Morgan Fixel Not in Attendance: John Barker, Chris Menges 1. 2025 Grant Cycle Application Overview – Final Numbers Natalie presented the final application numbers and request amounts per program area for the 2025 Grant Cycle: • Community Non-Profit: o Budget: $585,000 (2024: $560,000) o Applications Submitted: 50 (2024: 49) o Total Request Amount: $1,225,415 (2024: $1,145,440) • Arts and Culture: o Budget: $1,100,000 (2024: $900,000) o Applications Submitted: 35 (2024: 39) o Total Request Amount: $1,482,552 (2024: $1,344,069) • Health and Human Services: o Budget: $308,000 (2024: $225,000) o Applications Submitted: 33 (2024: 30) o Total Request Amount: $599,000 (2024: $885,846) • In-Kind Assistance: o Budget: $157,000 (no change from 2024) o Applications Submitted: 20 (2024: 20) o Total Request Amount: $206,446 (2024: $229,208) • All Applications – 2025 Grant Cycle Summary: o Total Requests: 139 (2024: 138)  119 Cash Requests (2024: 118)  20 In-Kind Requests (2024: 20) o Total Cash Amount Requested: $3,336,967 (2024: $3,375,355) 2. 2024/2025 Grant Review Committee Members Ann asked for the names of each reviewer per program area and the accompanying support member. Natalie presented the following: • Arts & Culture (Steering Committee Support Member: Judy C.): o Whitney Larkin o Wendi Sturgis o Amos Underwood o Robin Buchalter • Community Non-Profit (Steering Committee Support Member: Ann M.): o Allison Alexander o Becky Ward o Sandra Peirce o Wheat O'Hagan • Health & Human Services (Steering Committee Support Member: Tracy A.): o Shelley Senterfitt o Susan Sparks o Ramona Bruland o Esther Navias 3. Other Updates • Health and Human Services Capacity Building Program: o The City of Aspen previously offered capacity-building training and support through consultant John Daugherty. The program aimed to improve nonprofit governance, leadership, and operational management. The Aspen Community Foundation (ACF) aims to continue this program. o A supplemental request is being prepared by City staff for City Council. Additionally, ACF is planning to seek funding from SkiCo and Pitkin County. • Cultural Vibrancy Adult Fellowship Program: o The Grant Review Committee is currently evaluating 36 adult and 7 youth applications. o The Steering Committee discussed the need for new outreach strategies to increase youth applications for next year, including promoting the opportunity earlier and allowing more time to apply. 4. Important Dates for the 2025 Grant Cycle: Natalie highlighted the important upcoming dates for the 2025 Grant Cycle and the Artist Fellowship Program. She also mentioned the dates for the upcoming Convenings starting in February at the Red Brick Center for the Arts for both Adult and Youth participants. The Steering Committee expressed interest in attending a few of the convenings, schedule permitting. • Eligibility Review Due: January 3, 2025 • Grant Review Committee - Initial Scoring Due: February 9, 2025 • Grant Review Committee - Meeting to Discuss Initial Scoring: Week of February 17, 2025 • Final Scores Sent to Steering Committee: February 28, 2025 • Steering Committee - Meeting to Discuss Final Funding Recommendations: Week of March 3, 2025 • City Council Finalizes Awards: Late March 2025 • Checks Mailed to Grantees: April 2025 5. Important Dates for the Cultural Vibrancy Fellowship Program: • Grant Review Committee - Initial Scoring Due: January 2, 2025 • Grant Review Committee - Meeting to Discuss Initial Scoring: January 8, 2025 • Announcements to Applicants and Sending Out Contracts: Week of January 20, 2025 • Checks Mailed to Grantees: February 2025 6. Next Steps: • Steering Committee Meeting Date/Time: o Judy suggested potentially adjusting the date and time for the upcoming Steering Committee meeting. A poll will be sent out next week for input. • Pitkin County’s Capacity Building Program: o Ann requested an update on the outcomes of Pitkin County’s Capacity Building Grant, including whether it will continue and how it differs from the potential ACF Capacity Building program. • Youth Fellowship Outreach: o Explore alternative approaches and outreach opportunities to increase the number of youth applications for the Youth Fellowship next year. 7.
