Box 1878 Rifle, Colorado 81650 Subject: Addendum 1, Temporary Micropile Wall Shoring, Residence Addition, 320 West Bleeker Street in Aspen, Colorado Dear Mr. Brainard, RJ Engineering & Consulting, Inc. prepared temporary excavation plans for addition planned at 320 West Bleeker Street in Aspen, Colorado on May 5, 2020. Micropile shoring was installed during the original house construction. We understand a below grade addition is planned for the residence, and our current shoring plan utilizes new shoring installation in conjunction with the existing shoring wall. As stated in note 4.5 for the original and current shoring plan, the design life may be extended, if the system is inspected by a representative of RJ Engineering. For reference, see note below from plans: 4.5 The design life on this micropile wall is 12 weeks. Design life is defined by the beginning of excavation to backfill completion of the foundation wall. If the duration of the project exceeds the 12 week duration, RJ Engineering shall be contacted to evaluate the performance of the system and determine if the design life can be extended. RJ Engineering can inspect the existing shoring system at the time of the initial excavation to determine if the micropiles and micropile cap are intact. We will then make a determination if the system will perform as intended, or if additional shoring installation is required.
