FAN COIL AND HEAT PUMP, FC-1, HP-1:
THE FAN COIL AND ASSOCIATED HEAT PUMP SHALL BE A SINGLE ZONE, CONTROLLED BY A 7-DAY PROGRAMMABLE
THERMOSTAT TO PROVIDE HEATING AND COOLING. UPON A CALL FOR HEATING THE FAN COIL AND HEAT PUMP
SHALL ACTIVATE IN HEATING MODE AND SHALL RUN UNTIL SETPOINT IS REACHED. UPON A CALL FOR COOLING
THE FAN COIL AND HEAT PUMP SHALL ACTIVATE IN COOLING MODE AND SHALL RUN UNTIL SETPOINT IS REACHED.
KITCHEN EXHAUST FANS; KEF-1 & DEF-1:
THE KITCHEN EXHAUST FANS SHALL BE OPERATED BY MANUAL WALL SWITCHES AND EACH HOOD SHALL INCLUDE
CONTROLS TO AUTOMATICALLY OPERATE THE FAN UPON DETECTION OF HEAT IN THE HOOD AS NOTED IN THE
DEMAND CONTROLLED VENTILATION SECTION. THE KITCHEN MAKE-UP AIR UNIT SHALL BE INTERLOCKED WITH
THE EXHAUST FANS TO OPERATE WHENEVER EITHER EXHAUST FAN IS ENABLED.
KITCHEN MAKE-UP AIR UNIT; KMUA-1:
THE KITCHEN MAKE-UP AIR UNIT SHALL BE INTERLOCKED WITH THE KITCHEN EXHAUST FANS AND OPERATE
WHENEVER EITHER FAN IS ENABLED. THE UNIT FAN SHALL RUN BASED ON AUTOMATIC DEMAND CONTROL
VENTILATION CONTROLS AS NOTED IN THE DEMAND CONTROLLED VENTILATION SECTION.
THE UNIT SHALL INCLUDE DISCHARGE AIR TEMPERATURE CONTROL AND RECEIVE INPUT FROM A SPACE
TEMPERATURE SENSOR LOCATED WITHIN THE KITCHEN AND AN OUTDOOR AIR SENSOR LOCATED OUTSIDE.
IF THERE IS NO CALL FOR HEATING OR COOLING FROM THE SPACE TEMPERATURE SENSOR LOCATED IN THE
KITCHEN, THE MAKE-UP AIR UNIT SHALL FIRE TO PROVIDE A DISCHARGE AIR TEMPERATURE OF 68°F (ADJ.) AS
MEASURED BY A DUCT MOUNTED TEMPERATURE SENSOR.
ON A CALL FOR COOLING, IF THE OUTDOOR TEMPERATURE IS LESS THAN 50°F (ADJ.), THE GAS VALVE SHALL
MODULATE TO PROVIDE 50°F (ADJ.) DISCHARGE AIR AS MEASURED BY A DUCT MOUNTED TEMPERATURE SENSOR.
ON A CALL FOR HEATING, THE GAS VALVE SHALL MODULATE TO PROVIDE 90°F (ADJ.) DISCHARGE AIR AS
MEASURED BY A DUCT MOUNTED TEMPERATURE SENSOR.
KITCHEN DEMAND CONTROLLED VENTILATION FROM CAPTIVEAIRE SPECIFICATION
(FOR REFERENCE ONLY):
THE HOOD CONTROL PANEL WITH DEMAND CONTROL VENTILATION AUTOMATICALLY MODULATES FANS BASED ON
COOKING LOAD. MODULATION ALLOWS FOR ENERGY SAVINGS COMPARED TO FANS RUNNING ON HIGH SPEED
DURING COOKING OPERATION. THE HOOD CONTROL PANEL INTERLOCKS THE EXHAUST FAN WITH MAKEUP AIR
UNIT. THE HOOD CONTROL PANEL IS CAPABLE OF OPERATING IN ONE OR MORE OF THE FOLLOWING STATES AT
ANY GIVEN TIME:
AUTOMATIC: THE DCV HOOD CONTROL PACKAGE IS DESIGNED TO THERMOSTATICALLY ACTIVATE THE EXHAUST
FANS AND MAKE-UP AIR FOR AN EXHAUST HOOD WHENEVER ELEVATED TEMPERATURES ARE SENSED IN THE
EXHAUST SYSTEM. THIS OPTION WILL MEET THE REQUIREMENTS OF IMC 507.1.1 AND IMC 508.1 BY PROVIDING A
THERMOSTAT(S) MOUNTED IN THE DUCT OR HOOD RISER TO SENSE INCREASED EXHAUST TEMPERATURES.
ONCE THE DUCT TEMPERATURE REACHES THE ACTIVATION POINT, THE EXHAUST FANS AND MAU WILL BE
ACTIVATED. THE CONTROLS ALSO PROVIDE HYSTERESIS TO PREVENT CYCLING OF THE FANS AFTER THE
COOKING APPLIANCES HAVE BEEN TURNED OFF AND THE HEAT IN THE EXHAUST SYSTEM IS REDUCED. THE
HYSTERESIS IS FACTORY SET 2 DEGREES AND WILL KEEP THE EXHAUST RUNNING UNTIL THE TEMPERATURE
FALLS 2 DEGREES BELOW THE ACTIVATION SET POINT. A HYSTERESIS TIMER ALSO EXISTS TO KEEP THE FANS
RUNNING FOR AT LEAST 30 MIN AFTER BEING ACTIVATED BY THE TEMPERATURE RISE.
THE PANEL IS FACTORY CONFIGURED TO SHUT DOWN SUPPLY FANS, TURN ON THE EXHAUST FANS AND TURN OFF
THE HOOD LIGHTS IN A FIRE CONDITION.
THE DCV TURNS DOWN TO 20-25% OF TOTAL EXHAUST IN PREP MODE. THE SYSTEM IS CAPABLE OF TURNING
DOWN TO 0% WHEN OPERATING AUTOMATICALLY IF IT DOES NOT SENSE A NEED FOR HOOD OPERATION. THE DCV
WILL MODULATE THE FANS IT IS CONTROLLING BASED ON DEMAND AND THE LOW SPEED AND HIGH SPEED
SETTINGS ARE FULLY ADJUSTABLE BASED ON DEMAND.
IN THE EVENT OF A FIRE, THERE ARE TWO FORMS OF ACTIVATION. THE MECHANICAL REMOTE PULL MAY BE
ACTIVATED OR THE MECHANICAL DETECTION LINK IN THE HOOD MAY MELT. THE ANSUL AUTOMAN TAKES THIS
MECHANICAL ACTIVATION AND CONVERTS IT TO AN ELECTRIC NOTIFICATION SIGNAL VIA THE MICROSWITCH AND
BUILDING-INITIATING SWITCH. IN EITHER EVENT, THE DCV WILL BE ELECTRICALLY NOTIFIED VIA THE ANSUL
AUTOMAN. THE DCV WILL THEN TURN ON THE EXHAUST FAN, TURN OFF THE MAKE-UP AIR UNIT AND TURN OFF
THE HOOD LIGHTS. THE ANSUL AUTOMAN WILL CLOSE THE MECHANICAL GAS VALVE TO CLOSE THE GAS LINE OR
IF AN ELECTRIC GAS VALVE IS USED, THE HOOD CONTROL PANEL WILL SEND A SIGNAL TO THE SHUNTED PORTION
OF THE BREAKER PANEL TO REMOVE POWER FROM THE COOKING APPLIANCES. THE BUILDING-INITIATING SWITCH
CAN BE USED TO NOTIFY THE BUILDING ALARM SYSTEM.
MANUAL:THE SYSTEM OPERATES BASED ON HUMAN INPUT FROM AN HMI.
SCHEDULE: A WEEKLY SCHEDULE CAN BE SET TO RUN FANS FOR A SPECIFIED PERIOD THROUGHOUT THE DAY.
THERE ARE THREE OCCUPIED TIMES PER DAY TO ALLOW FOR THE USER TO SET UP A TIME THAT IS SUITABLE TO
THEIR NEEDS. ANY TIME THAT IS WITHIN THE DEFINED OCCUPIED TIME, THE SYSTEM WILL RUN SUITABLE TO THEIR
NEEDS. ANY TIME THAT IS WITHIN THE DEFINED OCCUPIED TIME, THE SYSTEM WILL RUN AT MODULATION MODE
AND FOLLOW THE FAN PROCEDURE ALGORITHM BASED ON TEMPERATURE DURING THIS TIME. DURING
UNOCCUPIED TIME, THE SYSTEM WILL HAVE AN EXTRA OFFSET TO PREVENT UNINTENDED ACTIVATION OF THE
SYSTEM DURING A TIME WHERE THE SYSTEM IS NOT BEING OCCUPIED.
OTHER:THE SYSTEM OPERATES BASED ON THE INPUT FROM AN EXTERNAL SOURCE (DDC, BMS OR
HARD-WIRED INTERLOCK).

1.GENERAL:
a.FURNISH ALL LABOR, SUPERVISION, MATERIALS, EQUIPMENT AND FACILITIES NECESSARY TO
FURNISH, FABRICATE, DELIVER, STORE AND INSTALL ALL WORK NOTED ON THE DRAWINGS AND/OR
SPECIFIED HEREIN.
b.THE CONTRACTOR SHALL FURNISH AND INSTALL ALL WORK NECESSARY TO MAKE A COMPLETE
SYSTEM WHETHER OR NOT SUCH DETAILS ARE MENTIONED IN THESE SPECIFICATIONS OR SHOWN ON
THE PLANS, BUT WHICH ARE OBVIOUSLY NECESSARY TO MAKE A COMPLETE SYSTEM, EXCEPTING
ONLY THOSE PORTIONS THAT ARE SPECIFICALLY MENTIONED HEREIN OR PLAINLY MARKED ON THE

2.WORKMANSHIP:
a.THE WORK SHALL BE ACCOMPLISHED IN A THOROUGH AND WORKMAN-LIKE MANNER SATISFACTORY
TO AND MEETING THE APPROVAL OF THE OWNER AND ARCHITECT.
3.MATERIALS:
a.ALL MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT SHALL BE NEW AND THE BEST OF THEIR RESPECTIVE KIND, FREE
FROM ALL DEFECTS AND OF THE MAKE AND QUALITY SPECIFIED.
4.SITE INSPECTION:
a.CONTRACTOR SHALL VISIT THE SITE OF WORK PRIOR TO SUBMISSION OF HIS BID AND THOROUGHLY
FAMILIARIZE HIMSELF WITH THE WORKING CONDITIONS & EXACT NATURE OF THE WORK.
b.SUBMISSION OF A BID ACKNOWLEDGES FULL RESPONSIBILITY FOR FURNISHING A COMPLETE AND
FUNCTIONAL SYSTEM.
c.NO CHANGES IN CONTRACT WILL BE MADE TO ACCOMMODATE OR ALLOW EXTRA FUNDS FOR ANY
OMISSION WHICH RESULTS FROM A FAILURE TO THOROUGHLY MAKE THE EXAMINATION.
5.CODES AND PERMITS:
a.ALL MECHANICAL EQUIPMENT, INSTALLATION, ETC., SHALL CONFORM TO THE 2021 INTERNATIONAL
MECHANICAL CODE (IMC), 2021 INTERNATIONAL ENERGY CONSERVATION CODE (IECC) AND
ORDINANCES AS INTERPRETED BY THE CITY OF ASPEN BUILDING DEPARTMENT.
b.CONTRACTOR SHALL OBTAIN AND PAY FOR ALL PERMITS AND INSPECTIONS.
c.COPIES OF ALL PERMITS AND INSPECTION REPORTS SHALL BE SUBMITTED TO THE ARCHITECT.
6.AS-BUILTS:
a.CONTRACTOR SHALL PROVIDE A COMPLETE SET OF AS-BUILT DOCUMENTS WITH ALL CHANGES
NOTED THEREON AT THE COMPLETION OF THE PROJECT AND PRIOR TO FINAL ACCEPTANCE AND
PAYMENT.
7.GUARANTEE:
a.CONTRACTOR SHALL UNCONDITIONALLY GUARANTEE ALL LABOR AND MATERIALS ON ALL WORK
AGAINST DEFECTS IN WORKMANSHIP AND MATERIALS FOR A PERIOD OF ONE YEAR AFTER
COMPLETION.
8.SUBMITTALS:
a.CATALOG INFORMATION AND CUTS OF ALL EQUIPMENT AND DEVICES (WITH ALL OPTIONS CLEARLY
MARKED) SHALL BE ELECTRONICALLY SUBMITTED TO THE ARCHITECT FOR REVIEW.
9.COORDINATION:
a.THE DRAWINGS ARE DIAGRAMMATIC AND INTENDED TO SHOW SCOPE.
b.THE CONTRACTOR SHALL COORDINATE HIS WORK WITH OTHER TRADES TO PROVIDE BEST
ARRANGEMENT OF ALL DUCTS, PIPES, CONDUIT, ETC.
10.CUTTING AND PATCHING:
a.ALL CUTTING AND PATCHING REQUIRED OF THE STRUCTURE (NEW OR EXISTING) SHALL BE PROVIDED
UNDER OTHER SECTIONS OF THE WORK.
b.PROVIDE NECESSARY REQUIREMENTS TO THE PROJECT SUPERINTENDENT.
c.X-RAY SLABS PRIOR TO CORING.
11.CLEANUP:
a.UPON COMPLETION OF THE WORK UNDER THIS SECTION, THE CONTRACTOR SHALL REMOVE ALL
SURPLUS MATERIALS, EQUIPMENT AND DEBRIS INCIDENTAL TO THIS WORK AND LEAVE THE
PREMISES CLEAN AND ORDERLY.
12.MECHANICAL IDENTIFICATION

13.DUCTWORK:
a.DUCTWORK SHALL BE FABRICATED AND INSTALLED IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE 2021 IMC AND
SMACNA STANDARDS.
b.DUCTWORK SHALL BE GALVANIZED STEEL GAUGES TO MEET SMACNA STANDARDS. DUCTWORK SIZES
INDICATED ARE INSIDE TO INSIDE [OUTSIDE TO OUTSIDE] DIMENSIONS.
c.ALL DUCT JOINTS SHALL BE SEALED AIR TIGHT WITH RCD CORP. # 6 MASTIC ADHESIVE WITH VERSA
GRIP OR MESH.
d.ALL FINAL CONNECTIONS TO SUPPLY GRILLES SHALL BE COMPLETED WITH ACOUSTICAL FLEXIBLE
DUCT UNLESS OTHERWISE NOTED ON THE PLANS. MINIMUM LENGTH IS 3', MAXIMUM LENGTH IS 5'.
e.FLEXIBLE DUCT USED FOR CONDITIONED AIR SHALL BE UL APPROVED, VINYL COATED, WIRE
REINFORCED FIBERGLASS, WITH MAXIMUM THERMAL CONDUCTIVITY OF 0.30 BTU-IN/HR-FT2-°F AND A
MAXIMUM LENGTH OF FIVE FEET.
f.DISHWASHER EXHAUST DUCTWORK SHALL BE ALUMINUM CONSTRUCTION TO MEET SMACNA
STANDARDS. SLOPE DUCTWORK BACK TO THE DISHWASHING HOOD.
g.DUCTWORK SHALL BE SIZED AT A MAXIMUM VELOCITY OF 1,000 FPM/.08" PRESSURE DROP PER 100
FEET.
h.EACH MECHANICAL VENTILATION SYSTEM (SUPPLY AND/OR EXHAUST) SHALL BE EQUIPPED WITH A
MEANS OF SHUT-OFF WHEN VENTILATION IS NOT REQUIRED, AND BACKDRAFT DAMPERS WHICH CAN
BE CLOSED ON FAN SHUTDOWN SHALL BE PROVIDED FOR AIR INTAKES AND/OR DISCHARGES.
i.CLEAN OUT ALL DUCTS PRIOR TO SUPPLY AND RETURN GRILLE INSTALLATION
j.DOUBLE THICKNESS TURNING VANES SHALL BE USED ON ALL DUCT TURNS OF 90°.
14.TYPE I GREASE DUCTWORK.
a.TYPE I GREASE EXHAUST DUCTWORK SHALL BE CONSTRUCTED FROM 16 GAUGE WELDED BLACK
IRON.
b.PROVIDE GREASE CLEAN OUT ACCESS PANELS EVERY 20' AND IN EVERY CHANGE OF DIRECTION.
15.DUCTWORK INSULATION:
a.ALL DUCTWORK SHALL BE INSULATED CONSISTENT WITH THE REQUIREMENTS PER SECTION 604 OF
THE 2021 IMC.
b.INSULATION SHALL BE UL LISTED IN COMPLIANCE WITH A FLAME-SPREAD INDEX NOT MORE THAN 25
AND SMOKE DEVELOPED INDEX NOT MORE THAN 50, PER SECTION 604.3 OF THE 2021 IMC.
INSTALLATION SHALL BE IN ACCORDANCE WITH IMC REQUIREMENTS.
c.RECTANGULAR SUPPLY, RETURN & TRANSFER DUCTWORK SHALL BE INTERNALLY LINED WITH A
VAPOR RESISTANT DUCT LINER OF THICKNESSES SPECIFIED BELOW.
d.CONCEALED ROUND, CONCEALED OVAL & OUTDOOR AIR DUCTS SHALL BE EXTERNALLY WRAPPED
WITH FIBERGLASS INSULATION WITH AN EXTERNAL VAPOR BARRIER. REQUIRED R-VALUES ARE
SPECIFIED BELOW.
e.ALL SUPPLY, RETURN & TRANSFER DUCTWORK LOCATED WITHIN THE BUILDING ENVELOPE SHALL BE
INSULATED TO A MINIMUM OF R-4 (1” LINER) UNLESS SPECIFIED OTHERWISE ON THE PLANS.
f.ALL SUPPLY & RETURN DUCTWORK SHALL BE INSULATED TO A MINIMUM OF R-6 (1-1/2” LINER) WHEN
LOCATED IN UNCONDITIONED SPACES AND SHALL BE INSULATED TO A MINIMUM OF R-12 (3” LINER)
AND WEATHERPROOFED WHEN LOCATED OUTSIDE THE BUILDING.
g.ALL OUTDOOR AIR DUCTS SHALL BE INSULATED TO A MINIMUM OF R-6 WITH A VAPOR BARRIER.
h.ALL EXTERIOR DUCTWORK SHALL BE WRAPPED WITH 2” THICK INSULATION AND WEATHERPROOFED.
16.TEMPERATURE CONTROL DEVICES:
a.CONTRACTOR SHALL PROVIDE CONTROLS CAPABLE OF MEETING THE SEQUENCE OF OPERATION
DESCRIBED ON SHEET M.0.001.
b.MECHANICAL CONTRACTOR TO COORDINATE ALL REQUIREMENTS WITH UNIT MANUFACTURERS
PRIOR TO PURCHASING.
c.THE HVAC SYSTEM SHALL BE PROVIDED WITH 7-DAY PROGRAMMABLE AUTOMATIC SPACE
TEMPERATURE CONTROL DEVICES (THERMOSTATS) AS SHOWN ON THE PLANS. THE THERMOSTATS
SHALL BE CAPABLE OF SCHEDULING OCCUPANCIES AND PROVIDING SETBACK CAPABILITIES TO
MAINTAIN ZONE SETPOINTS DOWN TO 55°F OR UP TO 85°F.
d.CONTROLS SHALL BE CAPABLE OF PROVIDING A DEADBAND OF AT LEAST 5°F BETWEEN HEATING AND
COOLING.
e.THERMOSTATS SHALL HAVE NUMERIC SET POINTS IN °F, ADJUSTABLE SETPOINT STOPS, AND SHALL
BE MOUNTED AT 46" ABOVE FINISHED FLOOR ADJACENT TO THE ROOM'S LIGHT SWITCH.
f.COORDINATE CONTROL TIE-INS WITH CONTROLS CONTRACTOR AS NECESSARY.
g.ALL THERMOSTATS SHALL BE APPROVED BY THE OWNER.
17.GAS APPLIANCE VENTING:
a.ACCEPTABLE VENT MATERIALS, ROUTING, DISTANCE AND TERMINATION LOCATIONS SHALL COMPLY
WITH MANUFACTURER'S INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS AND ALL REQUIREMENTS IN CHAPTER 8 OF

3202.3.2 Windows, balconies, architectural features
and mechanical equipment. Where the vertical clearance
above grade to projecting windows, balconies,
architectural features or mechanical equipment is more
than 8 feet (2438 mm), 1 inch (25 mm) of encroachment
is permitted for each additional 1 inch (25 mm) of clear-ance
above 8 feet (2438 mm), but the maximum
encroachment shall be 4 feet (1219 mm).
IMC requirements for grease duct termination:
506.3.13 Exhaust outlets serving Type I hoods. Exhaust
outlets for grease ducts serving Type I hoods shall
conform to the requirements of Sections 506.3.13.1
through 506.3.13.3.
506.3.13.1 Termination above the roof. Exhaust
outlets that terminate above the roof shall have the
discharge opening located not less than 40 inches
(1016 mm) above the roof surface.
506.3.13.2 Termination through an exterior wall.
Exhaust outlets shall be permitted to terminate through
exterior walls where the smoke, grease, gases, vapors
and odors in the discharge from such terminations do
not create a public nuisance or a fire hazard. Such
terminations shall not be located where protected open-ings
are required by the International Building Code.
Such terminations shall be located in accordance with
Section 506.3.13.3 and shall not be located within 3
feet (914 mm) of any opening in the exterior wall.
506.3.13.3 Termination location. Exhaust outlets
